Hi Everyone, Just stumbled across your forums which looks to be a fascinating part of the web. I have a broad interest in military history, particularly WWII and especially psychological warfare. Lee
I'm quite interested in Psychological warfare. I heard they played Western Heavy metal music in the Gulf war to unnerve the Iraqis.
Not in the first Gulf war as far as I am aware of. Don't know about the second one. But it was used in Panama. Don't think it did any good.
Yes Panama was the famous rock music incident. It was claimed to be used for psychological warfare purposes to harass Noriega. But, in fact, the rock music was used to prevent the nearby media listening to delicate negotiations. The full story here from Psywarrior: Rock Music & General Noriega
Welcome Psywar. Yes, I think you are right. I know a local store owner who plays classical music from the top of his store to keep the kids away in the evenings. It works a treat.
Read years ago of a mall that had a problem with youthful miscreants congregating at the front door, getting in the way of paying customers and harrasing older people. They installed black lights and started playing Rat Pack music. The blacklight only served to highlight the zit cream many of them wore and the Rat Pack music, well it's hard imagine that some don't like Old Blue Eyes and Old Red Eyes, but it is true.
