Bronze star criteria

What criteria did a WWII soldier have to meet to warrant receiving a bronze star? Can someone past a picture of one here? How about a picture of a good conduct patch or medal?

Now I'd like to see a picture of the Army Good Conduct Medal.

And was there a uniform patch signifying the Asiatic or South Pacific theatre?

There were quite a few.#1 is for the Western Pacific. #2 Pacific Ocean Areas.#3 Southeast Asia .#4 General HQ South East Pacific.#5 China Burma India.

Thanks! And that is a good site. Found that old Ruptured Duck there too that dad used to talk about. It's on his dress uniform. There are also on each lapel a blue oval pin with a sword that says Take it and Follow Me. Any ideas on that? Sorry to bother with all the questions.

Im not sure off hand. But "Follow Me" is the Motto for the Infantry School.

 

I think I have stored in this old brain of mine a possible answer to your Q about the duck -- but it's not surfacing at this moment -- if it comes to mind, I'll post it for you.

BTW, LEFTY -- you're in northwest IA? Tell me about your dad -- what branch? when? where? I ask only cuz my dad joined the 34th NG unit before the US declared war and ended up being called up with his unit and shipped over to Ireland in Feb 42.

 

Yes, lifelong resident of Iowa, as was my dad, who served with the Army 41st Division, 186th Infantry regiment in Australia/New Guinea.

I don't think there is a demand for replica ones. It is very easy to find the originals. Antique stores,eBay and the such.

My dad was born and raised in southwest Iowa, and I spent all of my childhood/teenage summers there. Seems weird that two men so geographically close would be sent to opposite ends of the war... but then that's what WWII was like.
