This is a free one it's based on the old Dos game Steel Panthers, well worth downloading. I got it and like it, also you can get a free version of Steel Panthers II which is post WW2 to present day which is also as good.

Heres the link to the WW2 one.

BTW you will need to install all the patches in order.

I prefer the Steel Panthers World at War version. :)

Over 450 scenarios for it. Historical and fictional here.

This Navy Field game, does it use servers like CoD where you just join an already existing battle or is it a predifined battle stated at the beginning and then the game is played until someone wins then you start again?

Well there are three servers (Arizona, New York and another one who's name escapes me), within those three servers there are numerous battle locations and within them are the games which you can make or join as you please.
It would be better, however, to download it and have a go yourself. :)

    Thanks Joe.

I did download it and had a go, very detailed with the ship consturctions and personnel allocation, I like it, I noticed in the servers that there are trade areas for ships and equpment thats interesting.

The annoying thing is that when you are a destoryer you cant properly take on the CA's or CL's without torpedoes.

how do you go about getting larger ships? is it pissible with more experience and 'level's' you recieve?

    Thanks for the website.:)

Tomcat-What server are you on? If your on Arizona, we could help each other get better. :)
I am just trying to get the money for a Tribal class destroyer.
You get new ships by your Bridge operator getting levels up. Once he gets to level 12, you can choose your nationality (British, American, German or Japanese), which decides which ships you can get. After that you can unlock new ships, which you have to pay for. You get money be participating in battles. You don't even need to do anything!
I just go on Great Battles, get sunk, then watch the BBs and CVs fight it out.

EDIT-I just got my Tribal! Here's a pic of it in port:-
