Stefan and others you younger guys talk like we did back in the mid-60's and early 70's. you high tech kids might be real interested in living a slower life and giving up all the latest gee-whiz thats needed gear. a person can survive on very little while using his brain.......there will be no stability with the governments posing as our friends the faithful as they do, here comes the one world government soon enough and by the way latest stats state the world is cooling down, again the above want to control your brain waves and for most will be quite successful
Where are these latest stats from? Also curious about the time period. Not sure anyone suggested giving up technology, just being a bit more considerate about how we use it and investing in making it more planet friendly. When have governments not posed as our friends? What is the alternative? Governments who just admit that they are concentrating on keeping themselves in power? Not a good way of winning votes. As for mind control, well, advertising, manifestos, its all the same and we are all victims of it. Just a question of how aware you are of it and which particular bunch of lunatics you listen to.
media already has changed the stats and as for those I listen to, I don't and haven't for some years, the TV is never on nor the radio, I do not read the newpapers and frankly though it sounds pretty senile I am not worried because I am not in charge, but have learned......... this could be just a nonsensical statement but in reality it may be the area I live in full of survivalists, many are fools but many are not as for tech it isn't safe it has proved itself over and over in the states with autos and the silly things folks of all ages klean to their ears and eyes. Guess I am a perveyor of the slowing down due to my age and maturity in life, though I am still wild like a wolf I'm sensing things quite a bit easier than I use to in my 20's, actually surviving in the 70's and 80's from time to time in the field taught me and others much in life. nothing is free nor is anything safe-this is not doom/gloom but reality
Hate to say this Erich but what are you on about? You just said that stats indicated the world was cooling and then that you ignore the media all but totally. Technology isn't safe? Well actually some of it is perfectly safe and has proven itself over the centuries, the wheel springs to mind. Really, I have no idea what you are on about.
If the world is hungry then it will not be stable, when men depend on someone else to make their food they can not guarantee a constant food supply. The more government tries to control it the less stable it will become. Now if the world in changing, what ever direction, it is natural (nothing ever stays the same) then why are we trying to change it? What makes us think we can? We cant save life, all of the time and we know much more about humans then we do the planet. That is my point. Who is to say that the effects we have on the planet are not good for it? Until you can track the source of the problem, and we cant, we can never fix it. The earth is a system and input in to A doest go directly to result B. Now back to hunger, when we take food and turn it into fuel we are wasting food. Corn the current focus for Ethanol in the US is one of the least efficient sources of biofuel. SO why are we using it. Government mandate. Idiots. Instead of planing they try to garner instant support for the "save the earth" crap and now we have food shortages. If we want cheap gas, quite taxing it, drill our own and let refiners be built. It is that easy. As I said else where if people would only buy efficient cars then thats what would be made. Ok I am getting riled up so I am calling it a day.
No just pointing out the fact that there is a world wide movement that feels(the operative word here) that the sky is falling. Fads and getting people to suffer their lifestyle isn't going to solve world hunger or any of the other continous problems that people have thrown money at, case in point, the Great Society by that lovely Texan Johnson, all that money and 40 some odd years and nothing solved. So before we go and live in a mud hut for humanity and throw money at agenda based consensus make believe science(Mr Rogers) we should have hard fact that we can change the earths climate, which of course we can't, be it warm up, ice age or loss of magnetic field. I guess it would have been simpler for you to say let's agree we disagree.
In a nutshell, the earth's been warming up since the last Ice Age. Many of the people treating MMGW as the new religion seem to be the same ones who predicted North Sea oil would run out in 2000, nuclear war would erupt in the '80s and finish what AIDS, Herpes etc had started, the hole in the Ozone layer would fry us all etc etc etc. I stopped paying attention to anything Greenpeace said when they admitted telling a pack of lies about the Brent Spar. It's sad but true that a fair precentage of the 'global warming' brigade are unreconstructed Marxists desperate to find some meaning in their lives now that their beloved USSR has bitten the dust. And that's NOT my own politics speaking. Last week a new study predicted sea levels would rise by 'hundeds of feet', in contradiction to previous ones which stated a maximum of 18 inches. The idea seems to be that if people aren't scared enough by the first claim, multiply it. Three new studies have magically appeared claiming the Sun is NOT responsible for global warming; why weren't these done years ago? The impression given now is that they're knee-jerk reactions.
People have been filling their pockets by scaring people since ever. Cip (case in point), Your shirts aren't white enough, even though you have soap, that's not enough (even though it is). You need 2 kinds, one for colors and one for white, both environmentally safe (key word) and bleach, one color safe (key word), and one regular. Pre-soaks with natural (key word) enzymes for tough stains, and now fabric softener, and anti-cling dryer sheets. Jeeze...see how much they Want you to do (buy)(key word) just to do laundry? Other "scary" things that do exist (but only in a minor percentage, compared to the amount they're trying to sell)(which is proof of existence, and this is what they hide behind), which they use to get money from you. Their answer is to throw your money at it (your money)....translation....create BS investigations, committees, and bureaus (as in bureaucrat/democrat) ...ie...JOBS, out of nothing, that produce nothing. tmai (throw money at it) Our children don't have good grades-tmai (could be teachers?) Our people have poor health-tmai (could be prices?) The earth is warming-tmai (could be the sun?) Our environment is polluted-tmai (could be good-ol-boy/re-election $ laws?) People are starving (trying to think of a time when some weren't?)-tmai Earth is running out of natural resources-tmai (could be too many people?) Our government has corruption-tmai (could be un-touchable nature of them?) Costs of goods & services are steadily rising-tmai (could be lawyers suing every one/thing, over the littlest touchie-feelie subjective offense?) The list is endless. Pick something you feel good about and donate to that. If you donate to everything thrown at you as an immediate mortal/moral danger, or do everything the media/soap-box orator says..........(you're an Idiot)
I wasn't actually referring to your post, that's why I quoted Carl Though you too seem to be missing the point, i.e. there are problems in the world and they will start to affect us sooner or later, be they changes in global temperature (even natural ones), world hunger or Godzilla. As for me, well, I try to live a relatively healthy lifestyle that isn't going to do too much damage but if the fecal matter does hit the air con, well, I intend to be on the side with the tanks Call me a pragmatist. Btw Carl, don't worry, daft forum debates aren't even close to being a priority when a mate needs help. Hope things are as ok as they can be.
There was this little thing in the 19th century called the Potato Famine in Ireland.....Potatoes have vulnerabilites due to blight. However, I will agree that they are a nutritious food source. Instead of food as fuel: In India, there is weed that is particularly tough and grows where nothing else will. They have been working with it and it seems to be a potential source of biofuel. Or I like this aternative YouTube - Salt water power Saltwater as a source of fuel. Historically, the supply of basic food to the masses has been necessary by some governments for stability. Egypt, Rome, and the lack of food provided to those masses led to the downfall of governments. We are living in a world in which the separation of the haves and have-nots has widened further. It is the haves generally who are hit by the cost of fuel for cars. All are hit by the cost of heating fuel or power for a/c - at least in my country where temps go to either extreme. Frighteningly, some of the have-nots are the working middle-class. This is not like many other times when it was generally the uneducated who struggled with day-to-day survival choices of shelter or food. In some ways it reminds me of a time earlier in the 20th century when times were tough, the middle-class struggled for basics, several "isms" developed, which eventually led to the reason for this forum... I think we are potentially at another turning point in history. Decisions and actions taken by governments and average people now will eventually have dramatic consequences. The world has never been smaller in terms of what happens in one country having an almost immediate effect on another. Perhaps we need to step beyond living in the shadows and after-effects of the Industrial Revolution and move towards discovering and creating more efficient processes to provide power and to make the best use of agricultural land or to reclaim that which has been lost.
I believe global warming is happening but man is doing very little to cause it, some factors such as CO2 emissions are influencing it but over all it is simply a natural process. The term global warming is IMO not even the correct term to be using, global energizing is more apt as what is really happening is there is more energy being added to our atmosphere on a macroscale. It's not so much warming the atmosphere as it is making it more active. This will give us more extremes of weather, worse droughts, more and more powerful hurricanes/typhoons. Something is happening, I remember glaciers I used to play on in Montana as a kid are simply not there anymore or have retreated so far that they are not even really glaciers. The problem is there is little we as humans can do to stop the change of the earths natural cycles.
There was also one simultaneously in Scotland, but the death rate was considerably lower because: a) A majority of people now worked in urban industry rather than on the land. The opposite was true in Ireland. b)Scottish farmers gave what potatoes they could spare to the local population; Irish farmers continued to export them for a profit. c) Parish councils in Scotland provided relief when it was needed, instead of waiting around for the government to do it. d) It may have helped that the Highland Clearances considerably reduced overpopulation in isolated glens, where the population would have been too far away from the nearest town to find alternative employment/food sources.
No food riots in America CE? The American Experience | Riding the Rails | Timeline (1929-1932) Feb 1931, and this is only one instance. If you want to debate me on historical facts at least get your s**t wired tight, it's not even sporting. As for socialism not working all one has to do is point to countries like Sweden, Norway, Finland, Switzerland. All highly socialist (gasp!!!! LIBERAL!!) and highly stable/successful societies. This is like beating an intoxicated possum with a stick.
The phrase "highly socialist" suggests all industry in those countries is rigidly controlled by the State. They're not. The Left is in opposition in Norway, and nearly all are ruled by coalition governments. As for 'liberal', Sweden has a tough anti-drugs stance.
Kia could probably weigh in on this better than I, my aunt is from Finland, and she is not going back. Her mother is the only one left there and that is because thats where he husbands grave is. Not that its bad or anything but you can never compete with freedom. Oh and when was the last mass migration to your "highly stable/successful societies?"
Hi Stefan, I greatly appreciate this ) im now back in the game as of this post. ;-)) On the above, yep, another good person lost to cancer. I really do wish that more attention would be put fourth into finding more cures for diseases. Sorry for being greatly off topic.
Hi Chuikov, what you said above is basically what i've been saying all along in this thread (using other words of course) were in a global warming, but then we will have a global cooling spell. It's all or mostly a part of Nature, as well as that global cooling will be. I can't quote exactly who or where I have heard so many folks ripping apart gore's global warming video, but, I tend to believe Scientists and Doctors wordings and arguments over the arguments of someone who is not qualified to make such accusations-such as al "Bush stole the election" gore has.
