Excellent programme on B.B.C. about Goering at the Nuremburg trials of 1946.The actor who played Goering was superb in conveying his undoubted intelligence and charisma-but also his evil and manipulative side too. I was personally offended how a Texan US Army Lt. brownnosed Goering and-the programme suggested-may have connived in getting Goering the cyanide for his suicide. Goering claimed that in the early 1920's when he was badly wounded during the failed Bavarian Putsch he was saved by two Jewish sisters-whom he claimed he helped leave Germany in 1938 as a token of his thanks-can anybody confirm that these sisters actually existed and escaped as Goering described?. Also showed Speer admitting his guilt for what had happened between 1933-45.
Thanks, Brian - I video'd the programme and hope to watch it over the weekend. Hopefully it's better than some of the 'Third Reich rubbish' which has been shown on TV this year.....
When did the BBC start having add breaks in there programmes. It was on Channel Four. Yes it was a good mix of drama and documentary with a good balance. Very interesting viewing and well made.
Oops! You are right!-I had been drinking Scotch last night!-it was Channel 4!. But do you know if Goering's claim to have aided two Jewish sisters in 1938 escape as true?.
yah i videoed this too, will watch it on friday. Saw a bit of it and looked well made, excellent acting from Goering's actor.
