    D-Day fails.
The Soviets still destroy Germany, though a slower process.
'The Bomb' comes into play as a direct diplomatic tool in the redrawing of Soviet/Western borders in Europe.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

How would it have failed? Can you give even one scenario where this could occur?

There were three airborne divisions landed. There are a total of five beaches that landings occured on. For the Normandy invasion to fail most or all of this has to fail. By D+48 there is no way the Germans could have succeeded in pushing the invasion out of France. They simply lack both the manpower / units and mobility to even attempt this at that point.
    So, how does Normandy fail?

Um if german spy detacted the attack months before it happened and station so many panzer units, infantry, tigers, navy, and a strong air force. Any counter attack can fail. Even d day.

Both the Battle of Britain and Operation Sealion preceded the Normandy Invasion by something like three and one half years, so if you accept the concept of cause and effect, a failure of the Normandy invasion could have had absolutely no bearing on either.

If the Normandy landings had failed, it's likely that the war in Europe would have extended into the summer or fall of 1945 with the probable result that the Soviets would have overrun all, or most, of western Europe. I don't think the atomic bomb would have been used on Germany for the simple reason that by the time it was ready, the Soviets would be in possession of just about every worthwhile target in Germany.

By June,1944, Germany was not in a position to exploit, in a military sense, such a failure, and would benefit only to the extent that more German ground forces would be freed up to counter the massive Soviet offensives in the east. This might slow the Soviets appreciably but certainly wouldn't stop them. Allied strategic bombing would still continue to cripple German war production and logistical efforts; Germany would slowly starve to death as it was cut off from it's sources of supply of vital materials, particularly oil. Not much would change except the date of V-E Day, and the post-war political landscape in western Europe.

Leaving aside that the Germans had ZERO spys in Great Britain at the time, the Allies would have noticed a massive German build up in the sector they planned to invade. After all, they are making daily reconnissance flights, getting resistance intelligence, have a large spy network in France, etc.

As for the German navy.....irrelevant by 1944. They will have no chance to make any significant impact on an invasion. Air power? What could the Luftwaffe put up in the way of offensive aircraft by 1944? Defending fighters alone will not stop an invasion.

How many panzer units? At Salerno as I have pointed out before the Germans had a division on the beach intact (the 16th). There the Germans faced only three Allied infantry divisions in the first few days. Within that same time they reinforced with another half dozen panzer and panzergrenadier divisions including some of the best in the German army. Yet, they lost.
They had Tigers there too. The Tigers couldn't fight ships and lost to naval gunfire repeatedly. They had parity in the air and lost.

So, how do they stop the invasion? This determines the rest of the scenario.

I didn't even notice that..... Now, that's being optomistic! Seelöwe in 1944?!! Really? The Germans effectively no longer have a navy or air force and certainly neither capable of launching a major amphibious invasion....just look at the "mini-Blitz" of late 1943 early 44. The Luftwaffe was lucky to get a couple of dozen bombers up over Britain at night let alone anything in daylight.

The US and British navies by 1944 have literally thousands of combat ships in service. Between them they practically have more battleships than the Germans have destroyers. The German submarine force is being pummelled at sea. What exactly were you planning on have crossing the Channel and in what?

As for say, the loss of a half dozen divisions in a failed invasion the Allies could sooner replace these than the Germans could their own losses in making this happen. Then there still is the little problem with the Soviets.......

Invade Britain in 1944!!!??? Somebody get that man a urine test!
