Just joined the forum having lurked for a bit I have a particular interest in the naval history of WWII, particularly the ships that my father served on. So, here I am and looking forward to it.
My father ran away from home to enlist "under-age" in the Royal Navy. He served on, amongst others, the Victorious, the Glasgow (Bay of Biscay, D-Day at Omaha Beach with the Americans and Cherbourg), was sunk on the Isis after just four days aboard (one of very few survivors) and the Jarvis. There were other ships too, but I cannot lay my hands on my notes about his carer at the moment. Later in his service he was involved in the "Exodus 47" affair off Palestine. He is now 85 years old and in poor health. I think his favourite time in the navy was on the Glasgow where he was, as he puts it, "Captain of C turret".
I ditto Scott's remark. I look forward to hearing any stories your father shared with youl. I hope you enjoy your stay.
As Scott said, please thank your Father for his service. Welcome, and I look forward to reading any stories your Dad may have shared with you. I hope you enjoy your stay.
