    FPS? Grand Strategy? Turn Based?

First Person Shooter: Call of Duty Series.
Grand Strategy: Hearts of Iron Series.
Turn Based: The Operational Art of War Series.

I'm the gaming boffin. No disputing this. Or else...:pzp::pzp:

    :p:p

PS: All of these are PC games. WWII ConsoleGames aren't great.
PS2: RISK is the best boardgame (only one i have played).

LOL. Yes you sure are :p. Sorry but I had to try and get the question to be a little more specific as opposed to being so broad of a question. LOL

    omg roflmao coh rulez!!!!111!

    No seriously.
FPS-Hard, but one has to go with...CoD3. (Feel like I just started a war. No really, whats wrong with Treyarch?)
    Strategy-HOI II DDAA
    Tactical-CoH.

Though CoD4 is the greatest game known to man, no dispute.

COD3? Are you crazy? Thats the worst game of the series, and not even published by the same publisher. COD4 is really COD3, but thats a whole other story.

COD - UO and COD 2 are far better. I still play COD - UO on a regular basis (as GroFaz Otto can attest to). Simply put, one of the greatest games ever made. Sorta like Goldeneye for the N64...dated, but still great.

What is wrong with CoD3 anyway? Just because it was made by different people dosen't make it bad!

No....but quality/story/gameplay wise, its a far cry from the others. I didn't enjoy it, nor do i know anyone who does. I got in for the 360, which I don't have anymore, and thought it could use many improvements. I think gaming community is united on this. If not, :pzp: will be visiting you soon to 'change your mind in a [peaceful] manner'....:D

    But....I love CoD3!
    Please don't kill me!
But what do I know, I'm a PC gamer. The most advanced console I have is a PS2!

I'm a mix of both, mainly PC though. Only game i've been playing recently on PS3 is GTA IV. I've killed so many people..

Anyways, I digress. COD3 was a let down..as can be seen by how many people still play COD and COD2. Full servers and all.

If you're talking simulations, its pretty easy. IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 is the best flight-sim out there, while the Silent Hunter series is the best Naval Sim.

If you're talking realism and FPS, with excellent gun models etc, then I highly suggest Red Orchestra: Ost Front.

Into MMO? Then try WWII Online: Battleground Europe.

For me the only bad points where the amount bodies flew when smacked with a gun, and the Polish missions where all the tanks are Fireflies, but I would expect that inaccuracy in any game, really.

I like RO, but my computer doesn't.
    IL2 is WAAAYY too hard.
SH-lol. Shoulda seen what happened yesterday, I got compromised whilst in Scapa Flow, so I submerged to the bottom of the harbour, then a Tribal class destroyer ran me over and sunk :D. I survived, but with my periscope destroyed and three destroyers circling me, I quit.

But CoD4, beats any game out there. It's like the Chuck Norris of the inanimate world.

BUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH COD3? Someone, please tell me why everyone hates it!!!

I really did enjoy COD3 just as much, especially the fact of it being the only WW2 game ever not ignoring that Canadians were there.:headbash:

Also its funny in COD2&4 a mysterious "Captain Price" Leads you.

I see that you guys are into the newer WW2 computer games. How about when the PC was still relatively new?
There were a lot of old DOS WW2 games back then and when I compare concept of the games back then with the games now, I tend to prefer the slower pace of the DOS games.
Though basically turn-based, I think the best is the old DOS based SSI Steel Panthers III, Brigade Command. Technically, it can be considered a WW2 game because of its scenario editor, which offers players a wide variety of equipment from different decades, including those found in WW2.
Personally, I like the turn-based system of this Steel Panthers version because it allows a player time to eat or drink. Today's games, that's nearly impossible.

How about the Allied, panzer and pacfic General games, they are pretty good.

    Combat Mission series.
    Close combat series.
    Hearts of Iron series
    Blitzkrieg series
    Silent Hunter series as well.

    All great games.:)

They are. I still have my copies of them and once in a while I am tempted to load them again.
