I usually don't believe anything TC writes. Take his book on Russia invading the US and all. Rubish.
Also, Ireland would join the European Federation for sure.
Plus I see conflict in the world escalating every day. I say we are at war only we don't call it one.

    Cheers...

If it happens the usual root causes will be there: religious extremism, economics or need for resources.

Religious extremism is really usually the manipulation of a few who are driven by power who manage to overwhelm the ignorant (and it has nothing to do with money or the literacy) who swallow their line, lock, stock, and barrel. Occasionally, there are true religious zealots who manage to lead with the unholy abiltiy to share their madness with the vulnerable who these days strap on explosives to kill themselves and others for no purpose than to destabilize entire regions.

Current vulnerability is caused by the ever widening gap of the haves to the have-nots. People who have nothing - will put their lives on the line if someone promises that they will become one of those who have. Those who have the material goods, often blind themselves to what is really happening around them. This has been demonstrated by the revolutions of the past.

If a major conflict ever develops and it would probably be somewhere in the future if it did, (despite the tendency of people to be nationalistic) I don't think it will be a division based on geographic boundaries, but based on economic and religious differences. It also won't be as "clean" as one army facing another in a battlefield. It will be for want of a better word "terrorism" or attacks similar to the resistance in World War II or the attacks by those within such as in Vietnam, where you can't tell who is the enemy just by looking at them because there won't be uniforms. If anyone should be able to recognize patterns of potential unrest, it should be those like the members of the Forum who study history and the history of war - those of us who particularly look at its socio-cultural aspect.

And of course never forget the need for oil and water by those with industries and those with large populations. Ooh - that makes my country vulnerable as it has a lot of both those resources without a large population to use it or defend it.

Tension between India and China may well becoem a serious issue as well. They are both rising quite fast in wealth and power. Pakistan is I believe a pretty close ally of China's. Could another Pakistan-India war lead to an escalation with China over central asian inluence?

I think China will appreicate India ae not to be messed with and I see India have been quite content to allow China to build much of the improved infrastructer in Nepal.

Although most of the ingredients of a war have been covered. The rise of Nationalist, which can rapidly metamorphosise into fascism, has been over looked.
