I'll be in Lake Tahoe all of next week and will be sure to take plenty of pictures! Will be doing some MTBing and Hiking. Not sure what else yet.
Sounds like fun! Never been there but sounds like a beautiful place from what I've heard. Must be quite a change from Florida!
actually bring your back country skiis for some great spring skiing the Sierras got dumped on this year have a groove Man
got plenty of sunscreen, mosquito repellant and please get a couple days to acclimate before he pounce on the trails, the elevation will nail your butt, take it from me I've taught all this stuff since the 1970's and you are going to be in my old stomping grounds .............but most importantly ...........have loads of fun
I have arrived (and fixed the internet already). Its beautiful out here...a perfect 66 degrees. 6,000 ft elevation I think, not too sure. Snow still up on the peaks and on the MTB trail i want to do. Should be fun. Will take lots of pictures.
I'm in Incline Village - so North Shore and pretty close to Tahoe City. Feeling a bit jet lagged (3 hours of sleep, been up for 14 hours already) and very out of place (30 years younger then everyone else here, so kinda awkward.) I'll be taking lots of pictures and will post them when i get back. Due back on Saturday.
Teaked my groin on the hike yesterday and got sunburn on top of my head (real short hair) while sitting outdoors at some mexican resturant in Truckee. Bit painful if i touch it or take a shower. First time thats happened to me. Going on a ride today so will try and take some more pictures...took some great ones yesterday I think. Well, won't know until i get back to Orlando. Perfect weather - mid 60's all week - is expected too, nice and sunny.
so what have learned from the higher than normal elevation experience ? .........where a hat, where a hat, where a stinking hat did you know that in the lower 48 that Truckee, Calif, has the heaviest dump of snow yearly in accumulation, that should also tell you just a tad bit about weather conditions and the thinnest and cold weather patterns all year, though my feelings are they are typical Sierran, as I said the whole area I have roamed for decades, and still do, glad you were able to get out and looking forward to see the pics
Got some more of it today, while off the bike and waiting for the others. my hands were pretty white from wearing gloves when riding my road bike, but they have no turned the color of my arms (which were nice and dark from said road biking). can already feel the heat, and my head didnt get any better today. painful in the shower.
Muss pull out the gold bond with Aloe and you will never go back to anything else again, make sure it is 90% aloe or better and that will cool you off and help promote healing, as a certified burner of skin since my childhood will attest I have used nearly everything sold for the past 40 years
The hand sun burn sure is wierd. The swelling went down but then it began to blister yesterday. Today, most of the blisters seem to have gone. Still hurts etc. So who knows whats going on. Did some MTBing yesterday. Climbed pretty high (saw some snow) and pretty intense ride but fun. Weather has been great all week - sunny and in the mid 60's. Heading back to Orlando today. Flight in a few hours, but wont be home till midnight EST due to time difference. Glad tomorrow is sunday, gives me a day to recover before going back to work.
you got burned by altitude infa-reds, redness, sore then blisters as the liquid in the burn drys up - blisters may remain but shrivel up and break away, skin still hurts to the touch as the burn may be deeper than you realize, get Aloe-vera on it asap !
Blisters were only around for a day. Now it looks more like regular sunburn. At any rate, back in Hell, i mean home, in Orlando. Woot. Will post some pics when i get a chance.
And now its peeling! Skin is wonderful, lol. Anyways, here are some images from my trip: panzerpenguin - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting No point uploading them here, so check out that page.
Its a BlueJay. Tons of them out there - the most frequent bird we saw. At one point, there were about 8 of them flying around while snacked on a bench near a waterfall.
