thanks for the link. Personally I am surprised that even 1300 can be ID'd properly, must have not had the tags removed or have found chewed up personal service books on them ......... there is just too many as mentioned laying under duff, who will remember them as well ? just a vapor in the night

That's pretty sad. I truly hope they give them a proper burial, all of them.

Thanks for the link Gordon. I agree with you Gents and am in the hopes that those soldiers will also recieve a decent Christian burial.

Thank you for posting that. I have often wondered what effort was made to repatriate the dead. If they are unable to make individual identifications for whatever reason, at least place them all together and give them the dignity of a proper burial. I for one shall remember them.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, fleeing armies seldom have time to properly bury their dead, and victorious ones don't care to.

Thanks, for the link. It is so sad. Their lives were thrown away and then they were forgotten....

I hope they receive a decent burial and are remembered properly. May they be a memorial to the horror that the Nazi's perpetuated, and not turned into a shrine by those who have twisted history in recent times by glorifying the Third Reich.

The germans have taken on an enormous task to find the remains of their loved ones buried in foreign soil.

    How are your "deutsch", guys?
Here you can follow the search worldwide:

    Gräbersuche

As mentioned before in another thread, this is a controversial issue in other countries which had volunteers in german service, especially in the Waffen SS:

    Kaprolat and Hasselmann revisited

It doesnt really matter what country they fought for. What it comes down to is they were generally terrified boys fighting for the country they were born to. They fought bravely and deserve every honor we give our own war dead in my opinion.

Yes, it is a shame that Axis dead are hardly remembered. You usually only hear the Allies stories as well. It seems that even German veterans are even frowned upon.

It is a shame that any vets are being frowned on, German vets especially. Thankfully though, that more and more people are beginning to "see" that not all German soldiers were bad guys. Many of us here know that as many here have German Vet/friends.
