Or possibly the Italian copy by Macchi which would fit the "WW2 airplane maker" better.

Hint; It is the same company that made the Star Strutter fighter. Non-German.

Hansa Brandenburg D.1 Star Strutter was the hint, Ernst Heinkel was the designer and the Hansa Brandenburg CC was the name of the aircraft.

Someone can put anouther plane out if they wish.

The closest thing I found is the De Schelde S.21 but it had a retractable landing gear and a water cooled engine.

Is there a second crewman in front of the pilot? It is hard to tell from the picture.

I dont believe so although it does look like somebody could get in there....ultimately, no need for a second person or first for its real mission (HINT) (Note Color scheme too)

I would take a guess it is a target drone but I can't figure out why it needs two engines and also I googled target drones and can't find the picture.

The insignia in the first pic is of the short lived 1943 USAAF/USN red bordered Star and Bar.

"Interstate Aircraft TDR assault drone was claimed by the Navy to be the world's first guided missile. It carried a payload of 2,000 lbs of bombs for 300 miles, and was used operationally in the Russell Islands in 1944"
