Hey All- Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Eric, I am 28 and from Michigan (USA). I am here because I have always had a great interest in the history of past wars and I have a profound respect for those who have served and sacrificed in them. Part of that reason is because my Grandfather (deceased) was an Army veteran of WWII (Africa and Italy I believe) and I stumbled upon this site while doing some research on his service records. With that, I will say thanks in advance for all of the info that I am sure will be shared with me.
Howdy and welcome to the forum. Plenty of good info and discussions going on here. Enjoy. Happy posting
Howdy and welcome! You will enjoy your time here. There is much to learn and a lot of fine fellows (and ladies)! Cheers!
Welcome aboard, the forum is a hive of interest and you will be amazed at what people can uproot, hope you find what you are after. Do you know who your grandfather served with and when?
I have submitted the request for his records through eVets and have a call into some family members in Boston who I believe has some more details. I believe they have his discharge papers and I know they have his Purple Heart and another Citation that he or his unit recieved. All the info I have is just stories from the family. I believe that he took part in operations in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. It is said that he was wounded twice in Italy and sent to Belgum for medical treatment and then back to Britan and discharged because of the severity of his wounds. I have no way to confirm any of this, unfortunatly he passed away in the early 80's when I was 5-6 yrs old.
Sorry to hear he passed away but at least you are looking into his story. Good luck with the research, like as not you will find someone on here who can help too.
