i have a a knife that was given to my half brothers grandparents by General Robey, then they gave it to my mother and she gave it to me. i have searched for info on this knife time and time again. i asked my brothers grandparents the story behind the knife and the told me that General Robey gave it to them and that he told them that a natzi gave it to him. i've serched for pictures of knifes like it,but cant find anything. on the stheath it has two deer looking away from each other and says "SOLINGEN "under the deer.. and its stamped on the blade Doppelren solingen germany. i was just wondering the history and value of this knife. here are some pictures
This is almost certainly a privately-purchased knife. 'Solingen' is a city in Germany which gives its name to an area which produces high-quality steel ( rather as 'Sheffield' was in England ) so many knives carry that word, such as the legendary parachutists gravity knife. For a moment, I thought that your knife had been converted from a gravity knife, but the shape is quite different. Knives were often privately-purchased ( the close-combat knife being the most well-known example ) but again, your knife is the wrong size and shape for one of those. I'm sure that there may be an interesting personal story behind your knife, but gauging a value would be very difficult......
sorry about that, been really busy lately with school and work. But thanks for the info. i think i am going to hold on to the knife for a while...
Martin is right about the knife's history. As for the value don't expect anything high. It doesn't have much value in it but then that's still a nice find. Great for keepsakes.
