Thanks, but to tell you the truth, I didnt care for Handkase much--I only are it once or twice while there, and onetime, it was cut into "Gold Bars" breaded and deep fried and served with a catsup type sauce--which sucked. I had this dish at a kiosk in Friedrichshafen as I was awaiting for my ferry boat to return for the final trip of the day--almost missed it too. Man, was that trip back across Lake Konstanz cold or what? I wene inside after about 30 minutes and had a German Coca Cola, in a well used glass bottle. Their Coke leaves much to be imagined compared to ours

Some friends of mine just got back from Berlin, a few days ago. Guess what? the Berlin Zoo Flak Tower is still there. My friends visited it. They also tried to see the Brandenburg Gate, but scaffolding was up all around it as it was being refurbished. Darn it--they were goping to get me day and night shots of it---Grrrrr

I dont know, but I will email her about it on Monday--if I dont get through here tonight before my hour is up. Soon as I find out, Ill let you know. She did the picture taking for a German vet who had been stationed in the Berlin Zoo Flak Tower. This cams as a big surprise to me as I had no idea she was in contact with someone like that.

PS, her father was in the Kriegsmarines Coastal Artillery.

I am willing to help with that! I'll try to gather info on the U-boaters. E-mail if you need help with the project at all. My email address in Tankfieldmarshal@yahoo.com However, don't worry if it takes me a few day to respond to emails. [IMG]

Hi Erich, those two things come from two different lady friends.

    1) The Flak Towers vets daughter: I have had no contact with her in about 2 years. I don';t know what has happened? I think it's possible that she got married and is now probably living in England. I tried all I could do to contact her but, all leads I get are all dead ends. Last she told me--her then hubby to be, was very domineering and most likely "made it law" that she can only have male friends--which are friends of his. Tell you what, if I ever met him, I would beat his head into a wall.

    2) The lady friend who had the father in the Coastal Artillery, has next to no info. She never found out any more than that her father was in the German Coastal Artillery. No info ever found on which unit he served in or where?

The only other thing I know for sure about her father, is that he died when she was very young and she has no clear memory of him.

This is kinda like me and my Grandfather. I was 2 yrs old when he passed away at the Old Sailors Home on Walla Walla street in Walla Walla, Washington. I do not know if he ever held me as an infant or not.

PS, as for a Photo Section here: I think we all need to bug the hell out of Otto and keep pounding him with requests on creating that photo section. I know he has well over 100 I sent to him for that section. Since then, I have gathered more.

    Otto....HINT..HINT.. ;)

Phil I have a list too but would have to dig it up. Ernst Börngen passed away I think not too long ago. And I see you were fortunate to get a reply from now deceased Joachim Jabs !.......excellent. When did you receive a reply from Ludwig Meister as I wrote him back in March of this year and no reply yet.... ?

wanted to add Phil that 9/10ths of my Luftwaffe contacts are not [IMG] members and they cover a wide array of twin engine and single engine night fighter and day fighter men. this has accumulated since the early 1960's when I really started to write these guys through my uncle while he was in Germany out of Wiesbaden Air base

    Hi Erich,

The photo of Ernst Börngen was a prize I won on the German Daggers website two years go. I was lucky with Jabs as I wrote to him only a few months ago.

I will have to check about Ludwig Meister as I don't have my info of him with me at the moment, although I think it was around the 6th June.

You are lucky to have all those contacts I only started to write to RKT's and a couple of other vets about a year ago, and I have tried to go full out on it and have corresponded with a couple of them more then once and I should be visiting a former German para in the next few months.

    Regards
