Anyway, back on topic. . . . Take care, Salty
Salty, You mean we have socialists in our midst? (sarcasm). There's a pretty good book out called "Liberal Facism" that compares the modern far left with the old facist and socialist movements, based primarily on progressivism. Some of it is questionable, but it is an interesting read.
Lippert-I have news for you. Where I live, you can't spit without hitting a "socialist". As with anything written, alot can be questionable. Yes, I already have the book, next in line to be read. I am currently reading the Bourne Ultimatum, reading some fiction for a change. Taught to read in school when a dress code (can be loosely considered a uniform, there we kind of stayed on topic) was mandated. Besides, If JFK were alive today, he would be considered a conservative compared to most of todays Democrats. Personally, I think it is time for voting everyone out of office and start over, starting with school boards and going all the way up to Congress and the Oval Office. No, I'm advocating anarchy, just the politics of division are so firmly entrenched it may never go away. Besides, not allowing military uniforms on school grounds is not about "protecting the children", it is about the personal politics of the people in the educational establishment. Which as a veteran I find reprehensible and demeaning. How many of those children have parents in the military and may be overseas. What message does it give those children? It is even worse at the junior college and university levels where some policies are even blatently hostile to anything military or American. It would be different if all sides were allowed to speak. So, it starts as no uniforms in the lower grades and the end results are pretty predictable. If this train of thought plays out successfully and as kids grow into adults thinking a military is unnecessary, there will be no America or any country where this type thinking is successful. Like it or not, a country is only as strong as it's military. This may be a controversial point of view but, it is none the less true. If you cannot defend yourself, you eventually cease to exist. Take care, Salty
I had no problem walking around my old school in uniform, went back to visit some of my teachers, sort out a few things to do with the old boys association and talk to the chaps, turned up in barrack dress and the head master greeted me, took me to his office and we had a chat and a couple of cups of tea before giving me a tour of the school and so on. Had a good afternoon. Thank god sanity remains somewhere!
THANK YOU SALTY, for the last two comments you made above. Sir, you are definately a breath of fresh air. Any chance of you running for President? ;-D you already have my vote.
Well said Lippert, and as you rightly said girls can wear next to nothing and gang members wear thier colours but when a former pupil wants to pay an arranged visit in uniform he is turned away, it smacks of the bullshit your servicemen had to endure from ignorant people (for better use of a impolite word) during the Vietnam war.
And what is totally funny is that its ok for students to wear camofluage and other military items at school!!! How hypocritical.
Interesting what you say about 'Nam. My dad got out after his first tour over there and ended up reenlisting and going back after only a few short days because he was treated so poorly. Couldn't get a drink in a bar, couldn't get a bight to eat in some places. Ridiculous. Salty, the Bourne Trilogy is my favorite series fo fiction. Very well written books - I only wish the movies had done them more justice (although in my opinion the movies are still quite good). As far as your point,I couldn't agree more. As "an agent of the federal government" you should be allowed to wear your uniform anywhere public (although obviously with the same limitations the UCMJ puts on wearing the uniform). I'm tired of people who think they know how the world works merely because they have a college education. But they've never done anything. They've never really traveled abroad, they've never been poor, they've never had to work a day so that they could eat that night. They've never been subjected to any kind of adversity. These people seem to think the world is a nice and happy place. All we have to do is love one another. The truth is, as sad as it may seem, that we're a warring species. We've always been territorial, competitive, and argumentative. We fight for dignitas, for personal honor (from our point of view). Only when the entire world is enlightened will we be able to move on to total peace - but that's going to take a while.
I agree with spit away as much as you can spit-but have to add-just as long as it's not at our returning Vets. I have a very good friend who served as a crewman in Hueys in Nam-and when he returned-he was spit upon by two hippie girls. They were two lucky hippies in that my friend only steamed with anger-but didn't shot it or lose his cool. And BTW-he's a very tall man at 6 foot 6-and now looks like Paul Bunyon-without an axe ;-)) I'd sure hate to get on his wrong side and or to meet him alone in some dark alley-with him looking for a fight.
