A simple question that for some reason I could never find the answer to- How many British soldiers were involved in the Western Front 1944-1945? Thus far I have found only the overall number of Allied soldiers or number of British Divisions.
Don't hold my feet to the fire here, but just a cursory check of some of my old files seem to show about 25,000 British landing at Gold beach, and another 30,000 landing at Sword. Those are of course "rounded off" numbers, as are the casualty tolls at both; 400 and Gold and 600 at Sword, killed and wounded. The Canadians at Juno would suffer the second highest casualty rate (after Omaha) with about 1200 out a total of 14,000 Canadians who came ashore initially. But I think the total ashore at Juno during the whole day got closer to 21,000 in later waves. This also doesn’t include the armored personnel who came ashore in support of the infantry numbers. These "semi-total" numbers should be understood to be general/rounded off types of statistics, if one wishes to find the true totals it could be done (I imagine) with patience and time. And only apply to the D-Day landings themselves. More troops landed post June 6th of course, and that total might be very difficult to determine as some were rotated home as wounded, and then came back to fight again if they recuperated enough.
