    Hi all.

I'm trying to gain as much info as possible on my granddads activity during the war.

I have his service number and know he served with the 'Green howards of Gallowgate' the 2nd West Yorkshire and the 5th Indian Division

He fought mostly in Burma but was in Java and Camilla (or so I'm told) and had some stories of Singapore:D:D:D:D:D
My dad thinks he remembers him telling stories of been in the 14th

I'd just like to know what sites are best to research this info, He has no photos whatsoever due to an accident many years ago, He has just had his medals re-issued and I would love to find some old pics etc, maybe spark something off in him:)

Where is a good starting point to look

    Thanks

    Andy

    Fantastic site, Thank you

I now know a little about what the 5th got up to and have printed off the insignia 'the ball of fire'
It's like a maze what with all the different regiments, Was it usual to be in more than 1??
Loads more to read, Gotta go:D

Fantastic site, thank you for bringing it to my attention mate

    Andy,

    Welcome!

With your Grandad's Service No and units you should be able to get his Service Record. All info here.

If you look at my post in the Military Records Research & Genealogical Research section at my post (#6) in this thread http://www.ww2f.com/military-servic...esting-copies-military-personnel-records.html past the Canadian section you will find the link where you can get information for obtaining British military records. You have his service number, but since he is still living, you will need to get him to sign the form requesting his service records.
