Oh dear God .... i just killed one of the biggest blackest mean looking spiders ive seen here.
It was taking a stroll across the tiled rec room floor...no way could i ignore it and hope it goes away, its card was marked the moment i seen it , i called in an airborne flip flop strike and it was all over in seconds..just a corpse in the dustpan now.

What...shudder..kind of these unmentionable creatures can i expect to be tormented by in this area? I havnt seen all that many and theres lots of scope for them to be around..I totally advocate chemical warfare on those pheckers..all means fair or foul

To be honest brndirt1 i dislike them so much i cant even bear to look at pictures of the things.
A deep distrust and loathing of them , i can't say fear of them cos i dispatched that one quick enough.

You know it was a big spider when your left with a corpse instead of a wet spot after unleashing the fury of a flip flop on it.

Several months ago I woke up with the ugliest bite I've ever had on my right side. I couldn't find what did it, and it took two weeks to go away. About a month after that, again-in the same spot.

Last week I climb in bed and look up. In the corner of the ceiling there was a red spider. The little #@%$!! was waiting for me to go to sleep so he could do me again. I dispatched him with a throw pillow and now I'm more careful to look around before beddy bye time.

I can't take this....watching the baseball having a beer , pleasently buzzed and cheery..you guessed it , i let my guard down.
I felt something tickling along my arm and totally freaked to see another spider only this time brown walking along my arm..good size too..i jumped and it went flying..to where i dont know.
Theres two more innings and i dont think those bugs are gonna give me peace , im gonna launch chemical strikes under the couches and chairs , this is War

Suffering from arachnophobia? Better stay home for Halloween then, there will be plenty of spiders and cobwebs around :D

Easy to like spiders when you live in Finland Mibo , consider crossing over into thier territory.
A Freedom fighting feline isnt such a bad idea , it'll need to be tough and obey orders to seek and destroy, but it leaves the door open to a host of other bothersome insects like fleas and ticks of which im assured there are plenty.
Theres also a Koi pond here which is off limits to enlisted cats , foxes abound here and im told coyotes roam the area in search of garbage and domestic animals , ive seen one but didnt have my camera that day.

Last year on the news several black bears were filmed going into peoples yards not so far away. It'll be a tough tour of duty for any cat.
Theres also the outpost of turkey vultures out by the ruined barn , a natural place for a cat to want to investigate , could be a lethal case of curiosity.
Volunteers only for this assignment i think , a few of those 9 lives will be on the line.

Skipper i absolutely love Halloween , never got any trick or treaters last year and its doubtful if that'll change this far out in the sticks..i dont mind cos i like candy corn and popcorn balls so its a fine excuse to buy loads and feign disappointment on the night while cramming fistfulls of the stuff down my gullet.

That is my plan for Hollow-bean too, buy candy I like and seem disappointed when the little "ghouls and ghosties" don't show up and clean me out! Then I get the Reese's P-buttter cups, and stuff!

We don't get individual/random kids around here. One of the locals hooks up his wagon (with straw/hay) to a tractor and tows them all at once (chaperoned) by others.
They arrive once and all at the same time.
The Mrs. wraps up assorted candy bundles (3 or 6 different kinds) in colored tissue paper with a ribbon.
We give them all out until they're gone, many (those who wish it) get two because we always over-stock.
It's a double for the kids, and easier/safer for everyone else.
You can hear them coming (right at dusk) from the noise of the tractor & the ruckus from the kids. ;)

That sounds pretty cool Skunk works , i bet the kids look forward to that hayride and remember it fondly all thier lives , good job your neighborhood.

I remember coming home from school one day to the sight of my Mum in the back yard emptying large bags of Halloween candy onto an even larger fire.
There were and is 7 of us kids , much younger then so you might imagine it was a considerable amount of candy , sufficient to stock a small newsagents.
She had got back from the shops and seen what looked like black marker scribblings on the wall of the house , on closer inspection it was ants.
They had found our cache of candy and were setting up a mining operation in the kids rooms.

A pretty bleak day , Yes.... ive been plagued by these devious monsters of the insect world all my days.If its not ants its spiders and if its not spiders its flys having a go at me.
My Alsation in Scotland used to eat the flys , he'd snap at them in mid flight..gone.

As a matter of fact Turkey vultures are scavengers, they don't kill their prey. The look for a dead body and eat that.
Look at their beak. Compare it to say, an owl. An owl rips open the body of it's prey to eat it. Turkey Vultures feed of half-eaten carcasses.

    fortunatly for me, I have this little trooper to gaurd against the eight-legged monsters;

Living in Texas, fire ants are always a concern. Until recently, I had just considered them an annoyance. I was at work and one of those little @#$&**!! had tagged me in the hand. Later that day, I went to my regular blood donation appointment. During my check in they told me my temp was 100.9

I guess I've developed an allergy to them. I went back the next day and my temp was my normal 97.8

I would say look above any outside lights. Spiders like to make home there and crawl in the door when it opens. They set up shop above the lights because of all the moths that will be attracted. I cleaned out the cobwebs above my lights the other day and found something like 15-20 BIG spiders crawling away to look for a new home. I quickly dispatched them with my model 84 left foot. The one stat I don't like is that you swallow something like 5-10 little ones every night in your sleep. uuhhh<shudder>

I was fine with Mibo's suggestion of calling in reinforcements up until i read your post Mike , had even tossed a few ideas around for a moniker ..Hawkeye mebbe,,Trapper John or Radar...all of which seemed apt.
But having done some recon on the terrain i can see i'd need a battalian of Cats , theres outdoor lights everywhere.
At least 3 in the back porch , half a dozen outside on the porch , the garage is a network of large fluerescent lights..front door has 2 or 3 lights....gulp...im surrounded arent i ?

Why did my font change midway ?Battery doesnt keep time either..tsk

Why don't you enlist the help of the SAS (Special Animal service)?

I think im going to have to Joe , my anquish has slid downhill to despair. Another night in the rec room , baseball is on ..i know they are out there on the wire testing defences.
Equally im sure a few have traveresd no mans land and are hunkered down in the vicinity..waiting for the mad dash across the tiled floor under the spotlights..stopping long enough only to be flattened.

Theres another kind of centipede on lsd type of bug , dunno what that is but it is very quick and seems to able to go any direction very quickly.Totally shakes and vibrates madly when it moves..weird

Im doing a solo mission tomorrow , deep behind enemy lines..the CO here hand picked me to clean out the garage.
Ill gather my weapons of choice from under the sink and head out at dawn.
Theres an old piano out there and thats where i figure they are holed up.Operations tell me theres a 15lb sledgehammer strategically placed for my perusal.

    If..(choke)..i dont make it..(sob) ..back...remember me ?

I hate wasps. Spiders give me the creeps, but the wasps make me go insane. I can't sleep unless I know of all the wasps in my vicinity have been K.I.A'd. I hate wasps. AUGH

    Did it look like this?[IMG]

These are all over. It's a comon house centipede. Very fast, though they are usually nocternal so there is probably many more than you relieze. I would say it's time to start chemical warfare on them.
Note: these suckers can run about 16 inches in a second.
