Army sets date for its first execution since 1961

FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The Army has set a date for its first execution in nearly 50 years.
The military said Thursday that former North Carolina soldier Ronald A. Gray is to be executed Dec. 10 at the federal prison complex in Terre Haute , Ind. He was convicted of multiple rapes and murders.
Army Secretary Pete Geren ordered that the former cook die by lethal injection. President Bush approved the execution in July.
Gray is being held at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He was convicted in a spree of four murders and eight rapes in North Carolina in 1986 and '87 while stationed at Fort Bragg.
The last military execution was in 1961. Army Pvt. John Bennett was hanged for raping and attempting to kill an 11-year-old Austrian girl.

It's a shame he gets to live an extra 21 years before being executed !

IMO it should be carried out by either hanging or firing squad. Scum like that don't deserve to fall asleep and die in peace.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I think hanging would be the best. A little more intimate when you can feel the noose around your neck and the anticipation of waiting for the door to drop.

I think hanging is more appropriate. A firing squad is a soldier's death and too dignified for a rapist and murderer. Remember, General Washington denied Major Andreas request for death by firing squad because it was more dignified than hanging, which was a spy's death..

I totally agree. He isn't a soldier nor does he deserve to just go to sleep and die. he should suffer the consquences fully for the crimes he has commited. After over 2 decades of having his room and board provided for him and then having him put to sleep is too nice for him.

Multiple rapes and murders? Military justice is a shade heavier than civilian justice, and rightly so. Lethal injection seems a bit light to me, send him to the hangman.

I agree Otto. Just hang him and get it over with. Then cremate his body and put his ashes in a dump.

Whatever happened to the good old firing squad? I'd volunteer for this one given how big a POS this guy is.

Like Otto said.He doesn't even deserve that. Hang him like a common criminal. And don't even give him a hood. He can watch the people's reaction when he drops. A fitting last image before he dies.

Maybe something like what Hannover Fiste proposes?

YouTube - Captain Sternn & Hanover Fiste

"Hangin's to good fer him! Burnin's to good fer him! He should be torn to itty bitty pieces and buried alive!"

i think they should give him the electric chair, since hanging can be over in a second, and the chair is supposed to hurt more. let the sick creep spend his last few moments in agonizing pain, like his victims did. that's justice

Unfortunately I don't think any form of punishment will even up for what crimes he commited.
