me and the neighborhood crowd played baseball i could hit decent but i lacked power and arm strength when it came to pitching. I used to try to throw the knuckle just too hard so id either have a floater or a sinker which i was able to throw a little.
I played soccer since the time I could walk, playing on a traveling team year round since I was 10 or so, and only on the HS Team at school. I ran cross-country in 7th and 8th grade (instead of soccer) and finished Top-20 both years at a 200+ Person Invitational (at the school I eventually went to HS at). In HS, I played soccer...we won States my Junior Year (undefeated) and my coach is in the US Soccer Hall of Fame now too. I also ran track - both the 1600 and 3200 my first year, but due to a knee injury that whittled away to just the 800, Sprint Medley, and the 4x400. Said knee injury is what got me into Cycling, and I rode from London to Rome the summer I graduated HS (2003). In college, I played intramural soccer with a mixed bunch of kids and founded a small cycling club on campus. We had an extremely hot Italian chick ride with us for a year (she was an exchange-teacher or something, and just a few years older then us...needless to say, my GF at the time wasn't happy about that) but in the last 2 years (post college) I haven't done much as far as athletics go for various reasons. Recently, I picked up Airsoft, which is more of a Mil-Sim then paintball. For instance, i wasn't able to go, but the team I played with went to play with the local group of Soldiers this past weekend, part of their training, acting as the "Terrorists" and then playing in a large scrimmage after wards.
Football and track (shot and discus, I'm no runner) during high school. Baseball during the summer as our HS did not have a team. Recently spent 4 years as a volunteer HS football coach here in NE Ohio. Loved it but had to give it up as my job changed and I no longer had the time to devote to it.
Played hockey...also a victim of a meniscus tear in my knee. Played goalie. While rehabbing it, played pool for the first time serious. Turned it into a business while in college. I shoot a lot of straight pool, lot of 9 ball. Personel best is a run of 119 balls in straight pool. Got a job once working part time in a pool hall..worked mostly week nights when not many people around. Played 5-6 hours a night all week. Got to the point I could beat most people playing regular pool while I was playing bank. Bar table, 8 foot or 9 foot. Have a nice collection of cues...my pride being a Schon, that I paid way more than I'll ever admit to!
Football (linebacker) and baseball (catcher) in high school. Signed and played professionally for 5 years with the Dodgers. Now coach extensively FB, BB, SB, Basketball, wrestling. Do nothing for myself now except chase kids.
Played Little League and Pony League ball as a center fielder; was a starting forward in C and JV basketball in high school and a back-up varsity forward; was a starting varsity offensive midfielder/and right forward in soccer for 2 years at the community college level; was a member of the 185th Armor Bn. pistol team CAL ARNG shooting the 45 (fair shot) and 22 ( pretty good shot). The 22 team took the state championships. After college started shooting trap and became a AA class shooter, shooting all over the Western states(CA, NV, AZ, MT, ID, UT, CO, WY, SD). Because of knee and ankle injuries sustained in the past as well as health issues, current sport activities limited to observation.
When I was younger I used to swim and play soccer (in the case of soccer... badly ) Now I'm one of the older members of the forum my main sport/outdoor activity is Rambling, which is the term used to describe going for long walks in the countryside. ps I also tend to ramble in my posts..but that's a different issue
Swimming, raquette ball, football, baseball, track (high jump, poll volt, and discus), competitive shooting (small bore rifle), surfing and later after highschool I grew to 6'3" and had a 34" verticle leap I started playing basketball.
