So, I was in the chatroom of another forum I am a member off. They were discussing WWII/Military when I popped in so I asked what they were talking about. This is what one person said: "I don't see how a country so militarily inept can have the most famous General (Napoleon)." At which point, I pointed out that that was many years ago, when the French were a Military Powerhouse (its not called the Napoleonic Era for nothing) not to mention how most military ranks etc are FRENCH. Clearly, this shows that the French are the most inept military ever.... Some people....
Oh, it doesn't end there. Here's another comment: "xxxxx rages when Germany tried to deny the Holocaust happened" Um, when do they do that?
I could go on for hours to people why in 1940 the French capitulated so fast. The just don't want to know that France had the most powerful military for most of it's history. It was not the troops, but good politicians the French where lacking in. And modern Generals.
You can't win against that level of stupidity, Muss. Go ask them why the 18th century is known as the second Hundred Years War, should be worth a laugh.
If memory serves, there's a fringe political group with just afew members in the Reichstag. Their leader is a Holocaust denier, as is most of the middle east, and if memory serves, some French politician-several years back, said that the number of Jews killed should be scaled back to about 10k, not six million.
Don't forget that about the time Napoleon became irrelevant, the Mexican Army, briefly became the best trained Army (trained by the French), then in 1836, the Mexican Army took a whupping from a small, but really ticked off Texas Army.
Ah, yes, sometimes it's better just to cut cables and let drift for the sake of sanity. I am taking some slack even in THIS forum because the level of ignorance displayed in the recent weeks by some "select few" is too much for my blood pressure.
You know, there are people on this site who feel that they are the be all, end all, sources of knowledge in the universe. The importance they assign themselves is astounding, it's mind boggling actually. I supervise 62 people. A lot of them are academically challenged, but that doesn't stop them from having opinions. Because they can't construct an entire sentence on paper, does this invalidate their opinions? The key is using patience and listening. Sometimes, they have good ideas. Often, they don't deserve to be beaten up for having a different point of view. With knowledge, there should be wisdom, and the wise listen and consider, while the pretentious only fall by the wayside in their own importance.
Well said, LCP, thank you. This can be annoying, for after years and years of serious study and you are confronted with some brat whose only source is a videogame blurb or some commercial documentary, you end up with the feeling that you are pushing a rope.
Hell Za. Some don't even have that much knowledge it seems. Or they believe some of the propaganda that is spewed out there and have to repeat it here. LOL.
