40thson reporting for duty Sir!!! Great site!!! My name is David, I'm 53 years young and from Alabama. My dad was in the 40th ID WWII. Interested in all history of World War Two, especially APTO and info on the Phillipines campaigns and Manila liberation. Have lots of pictures my dad gave me made during his service time. I like to work on and collect antique bicycles. I'm sure I'll learn a lot here. Thanks!!!
Howdy! Welcome aboard! This is a great place! Plenty of nice, knowledgeable folks with answers to your questions, ready to give additional facts, and maybe even change your viewpoints about WW2 battles or aircraft, ships, etc. Have a great time!
It just don't get no better than the Heart of Dixie, does it David? I am near Montgomery, what part of the state do you call home? Welcome and glad you could join us. Tell us about your father. A good place to do it is here. Is the good man still living? If you want to post pictures and need assistance, any of the moderators can help you.
Hello from Canada! Trust me when I say that this site is one of the greatest for research and discovery! Welcome to our team
Thanks to all you guys!!! Dad passed away a couple of years ago and like most veterans, only mentioned the PG rated experiences of the war when I was growing up. In his last few months with his mind still sharp as ever, gave me all of his momentos and pictures that he had saved from the war. Since then I have studied the trail of his war experience and usually when I solve one question, it developes several more. He was drafted in his senior year of high school in 1942 and left for induction at Ft. McClellan two days after he graduated. He related stories of long marches on Leyte and Luzon and arty from the Japanese near Manila. He also went to Korea for occupation duty after the war. After he was discharged in 1946, he participated in honor guards for funerals of fallen vets through the local American Legion Post of which my Grandfather, a WWI vet, was a charter member of. I live near Gadsden in N.E. Alabama. Thanks!!!
