Name: Chad Murphy. I got my user name from my family motto "Fortis et Hospitalis" which translated means brave and hospitable. That and it sounds very cool.

Origins: I'm from a little suburb called Chittaway Bay, located in Wyong Shire on the Central Coast of the state of New South Wales, Australia.

Specifics: I've only been fascinated by World War II for the past 3 years or so, ever since I began historical wargaming (Flames of War). The hobby sparked an interest in the period and I haven't looked back since. The main areas of WWII that I focus thus far is the main personalities of the war, namely, Gen. Patton, Field Marshall Montgomery, Field Marschall Erwin Rommel. But over time, this expanded, especially when I saw Band of Brothers. Anywho, I prefer to read about the Eurpoean Theatre of Operations. I haven't yet found much inspiration to expand to the Eastern Front as of yet, but hopefully this will change in quick time.

Hobbies: Miniature wargaming is my major hobby at the moment. Specifically WWII as well. I focus mainly on the Flames of War and Rules of Engagement systems.

Other: I am pretty much interested in all military history up to the Korean War. Modern warfare doesnt interest me that much. Therefore, I prefer to read and discuss the period of Antiquity (Rome, Greece, Persia, Carthage), Medieval & Middle Ages, Napoleonic, the Great War, Korean War and obviously WWII!.

Miscellaneous: Currently I'm a full time student at the University of Newcastle, studying for a Bachelor's Degree in Modern History and International Affairs.

    Hello Fortis,
Welcome to the forum! I know you'll enjoy it here. There are almost 10 years of discussion threads on WW2 topics to search and look over. And you'll meet some really nice folks too as well as actual Veterans of WWII. I recommend you take a look at Sapper's thread on his war experiences. Have fun!

    Hahahahaaa!!! GAAARR!!!

Indeed "Murphy" does mean Sea Warrior in Gaelic. I think the translation is into Gaelic is Murchadha. Depending on the period as well the name came from it could relate to the Vikings!!! Well....... I can always dream of being a Viking anyway. lol.
