Hello all i need any info you might know on this ring. it has makers mark RP inside of ring, silver 835, and reads on the outside "DEM ALTEN VATERLAND DIE TREUE ZU BEWEISEN GAB ICK IN SCHWERER ZEIT IHM GOLD FUR DIE SES EISEN". kindest regards , thanks to all that can help.
the year says 1914, so ww1 i guess..... the text is kinda poem which says "to show the old fatherland my loyality i gave gold in hard times to get this iron" i'm sorry, but i don't know anything else about it
As far as I know it was common for men that were awarded the iron cross to also wear a ring attesting to that.
It's a WWI Patriotic Ring-nothing to do with the military or for military service. Civilians helped to fund the War Effort by buying such items.
The WWI patriotic ring is the equivalent of war bonds in the USA, or patriotic pins in France. It's a nice war relic though, worth a few euros.
