I just saw Fury however militaristicaly and historically way off the mark. The 2nd Armored "Captain" sends in 4 Sherman's against a column of 300 SS Soldiers with no FLAK cover instead of sending the USAF JABOS to strafe them and bomb them. In April 1945, the Luftwaffe didn't exist as a fighting unit.. He knows where they are coming from, why not send in a recon plane to pinpoint them first? Again same situation, let's over dramatise the events to draw it out but forget about historical accuracy. WarDaddy, orders the 4 Shermans to attack the front of a Tiger Tank, just sheer suicide and madness. The shells bounce off the front of the Tiger. Instead of falling back and calling in their AirForce to deal with one sole Tiger Tank. WarDaddy loses 3 tanks in his platoon in the process. Way to go leader!!! . The US and British had a range of ground attack aircraft (Typhoons, Tempests, Mustangs .P47 Thunderbolts etc ) referred to as JABOS. The Allies had air superiority since D-Day. No but Wardaddy decided to sacrifice his 4 Shermans to deal with one Tiger head on.. Wouldn't have happened. Let's not talk about the final scene which sounds like it come from the Movie 300 (in fact that is the number of SS Soldiers quoted in the movie) Farcical. http://www.worldwar2history.info/Normandy/air-supremacy.html http://www.worldwar2history.info/Normandy/air-supremacy.html http://www.amazon.com/American-Fighter-Bombers-World-War-II/dp/0764318780
Actually, it was common to charge a Tiger to close the range where the M4's gun might have some affect. I suspect the M4's might have been spaced further apart, however.
Just watched the trailer for "Against the Sun," which might be based on "Three Men in a Raft." Looks like it might be pretty good. I was surprised to learn that one of the actors is the fellow who played Draco Malfoy. http://youtu.be/8MYsgLqtEgk
Watched "Against The Sun" yesterday. It was a low budget movie, but I felt didn't suffer too much from that as the focus of the film was the survival of three guys in a rubber raft. I have a sneaking suspicion it was financed by the Church of Latter Day Saints or some such religious group. The religious aspects of it (faith, forgiveness) was a little heavy handed. On the other hand people in the 1940s would have been a bit less circumspect with their religious beliefs (?) and three guys in that situation would have fallen back on prayer, if only to keep their spirits up. For all of that, Angelina Jolie did it better last year in her movie.
Just thought I would put this out there for discussion. Upcoming in the next two years. "USS INdianapolis: Mission of Courage" directed by Mario Van Peebles. Stars Nicholas Cage as Captain McVay. Not sure how big a release the studios are going to give this film. It may end up (ahem) sinking at thye box office. "Anthropoid" directed by Sean Ellis. About the assassination of Heidrich in Czechoslovakia. Stars Cillian Murphy. "Hacksaw Ridge" directed by Mel Gibson. True story of Desmond T. Doss, a medic during the battle of Okinawa who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. StarsAndrew Garfield. "Erasure" directed by Rhys Hayward. Set in France in 1944. American soldiers caught behind enemy lines try to save save a young woman from the Germans and fight their way out. "The Bombing" directed by Xiao Feng. Set in China, 1940. "Son of Saul" directed by Lazlo Nemes. Auschwitz. A man saves a young boy from the fires. This film has received raves in Europe and will get a release in the US and Canada on dvd. Christopher Nolan has announced that his next film, which he is presently writing) will be about Dunkirk. If anyone has the pull to make an epic about the evacuation of Dunkirk it is the box office champion of the past ten years. In addition to "Interstellar" and "Inception" he is the director of all three previous "Batman" movies. Other major directors who have pet WWII movies they want to make: Guy Ritchie "The Battle Of Britain" (possibly as a television mini-series) Peter Jackson and Stephen Frye "Dam Busters" (now that The "Hobbit" trilogy is behind him, Jackson may get through the pre-production while directing the second TinTin movie. He and Frye have been talking about a script collaboration for years and Frye had a major part in "The Hobbit". Hopefully they had time to get into it further. Plus they were surrounded by some wonderful British actors, all of whom would be great in the movie) John Woo "Flying Tigers" (How much juice does Woo still have to get this done? If he can pull together a co-production deal with Hong Kong-US backing... you never know. It would depend on how passionate he is and if he can get a couple of major Hollywood stars to commit. John Irvin "Monte Cassino" (though that project has been off the boards so long it probably won't happen. Dale Dye "Citizen oldiers" and "No Better Place To Die". Also we are still waiting for updates on the Tom Hanks-Steven Spielberg "Masters Of The Air" miniseries for HBO. A follow up to "Band Of Brothers" and "The Pacific" about the Mighty Eighth bombing group. The conceptual phase seems to be taking forever. When you look at Hanks' slate of projects, he has some major things in productioin, including the epic Civil War series "At Appotomax".
"Elser" by the director of "Downfall" retells the story of how Georg Elser attempted to assassinate Hitler by planting a bomb in 1939. It was released last April in Germany but I have not seen it's release date in the US or Canada. The preview is very interesting. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1708135/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
The director of The Railway Man (Jonathan Teplitzki) is going into production on a movie about Winston Churchill. Brian Cox as Churchill and Stanley Tucci as Dwight Eisenhower for a 2016 or 2017 release. It is about the final 24 hours counting down to D-Day. Title: Churchill

"USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage" is an upcoming American epic action-adventure war film directed by Mario Van Peebles and written by Cam Cannon and Richard Rionda Del Castro. The film stars Nicolas Cage, Tom Sizemore, Thomas Jane, Matt Lanter, Brian Presley, and Cody Walker. Principal photography began on June 19, 2015 in Mobile, Alabama. The film is set for release on May 30, 2016. This is a remake of the 1991 film "Mission of the Shark: The Saga of the U.S.S. Indianapolis".
The upcoming US-Australian war drama "Hacksaw Ridge" is said to have its premiere on the 4th of November this year. Some information on this teaser. https://youtu.be/N9GlS0s3Ok8
No it is not. No more so than Pearl Harbor is a remake of Tora!Tora!Tora! or Red Tails is a remake of The Tuskegee Airmen. Just two films made on the same historical subject matter. I loved Mission of the Shark but have much lower expectations when it comes to the bigger budgeted Men of Courage.
Brett Ratner is apparently doing a remake of the 1978 film "The Boys from Brazil". http://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/brett-ratner-remaking-boys-brazil/
You do realize that was 10 years ago don't you? Rush Hour 3 was released back in 2007, and Ratner has done about 14 films since then.
The article I was referring to was updated October 2015 and this, to me, is recently enough to be treated as relevant news. Furthermore, whether Ratner has made si or so many films during the pats year is irrelevant in the context of this thread. What is relevant though, is whether someone can confirm if the plan for a remake of "The Boys from Brazil" has been scrapped or is still on.
If posting news about an upcoming Korean war film is off topic, the moderators may delete the post. Next mount, July 2016, the Korean film "Operation Chromite" will be released. It is a true war story blockbuster about General McArthur and the X-RAY spy mission involving eight other troops. Liam Neeson plays the role as Douglas MacArthur. Operation Chromite took place 1950 in the Battle of Incheon.

A number of scenes cover this in the film.
