Perhaps some-one should have set up a stall selling minatures of him hanging from a lamp post. ~Steve
Do you think they'll give me £1250 if I call myself Benito? but seriously what's wrong with Benito anyway?
It's not worse than calling people Philippe in France, Josef in Russia or Francisco in Spain. Politically correctness at its worse...
I'm personally never ordering another Magharetta Pizza....I've just found out she signed dictats against other religions.... As for Henry.....
Razin..... A history buff, shame on you matey....she invented pizza...well sort of..Queen of the errr...I forget, Netherlands or Italy....Pizza down to her...aparantly....unless someone wants to flame me on it....In which case Ill have a flamed Burger King burger without the pickle please.
Honestly I googled it and still couldn't find out who all I know is the red Green and white represent the Italian flag so I suppose she must be Italian. The Netherlands connection that's were Pizza Italiano by Dr Oeker is made is it Steve
Well thats as close as your going to get Razin....Thats the gist of it...But maybe we have an Italian on here somewhere who will shoot me down...But I seem to remember reading that there was a queen Marghiretta or whatever...and yes the colours of the flag and she was baked a pizza with the colours on it by some baking creep...and hence the Margharitta pizza first of its kine...and some way she was related to the Dutch royal house...See my history is spot on...or vague as my examiner once told me...means the same as google though I'm sure.
Seems most sites on net have the same or similar story to this one on ask.com But I got it from one of those 1001 things you didnt know about the world...Xmas stocking thingys.. modern pizza has been attributed to baker Raffaele Esposito of Naples. In 1889, Esposito who owned a restaurant called the Pizzeria di Pietro baked what he called "pizza" especially for the visit of Italian King Umberto I and Queen Margherita.
Margherita not Marghiretta was the first queen of Italy, she was born a Savoy (so no Dutch) and married her cousin Umberto who reigned as Umberto I until he was killed in 1900. You got the "pizza story" basically right though which clearly shows you have the right priorities so I won't shoot you this time .
TiredOldSoldier Thanks for the explanation- the spelling was wrong, My Netherlands connection was a joke which you would understand if you ever eat a Dr Oeker Pizza- the box has more flavour Steve
I just knew an Italian would come along if we waitied long enough.... I thought there was a Dutch link but there you go... Now Chinese....Noodles apparantly are not Italian and were pinched from the Orient by Marco Polo...Any Chinese on the board wish to comment???
