As one of the new members, my primary interests are the U.S. 6th and
45th Infantry Divisions, the PTO and MTO/ETO, respectively.

In eight trips to the National Archives in College Park, MD, I have
obtained significant resources on both divisions, which I will be glad
    to share.

In addition, I have data on the 158th RCT, the 214th AAA Gun Bn and the 645th TDBN. The latter was attached to the 45th ID for much of the war.

Dave -- This is a fine place and I am sure we will all enjoy whatever you have to post. What is the genesis of your interest in those divisions? Family connection? I am looking forward to learning more.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the welcome, guys.

Nine of my uncles were in the war. Two of them died - one
KIA serving with 6th in Luzon, P.I., and the other with the 45th,
who died of wounds sustained at Schweinheim, Germany.

Dave, does your information show any long-term unit attachments to the 6th Infantry Division ?

    Cheers

I think I understand your question. My focus with the 6th
is New Guinea through March 1945, so I really can't provide
much info on unit attachments beyond March.

Hi Dave, I'd be interested to know if the 6th had any AAA or tank battalions attached to it during its combat service on New Guinea. Thanks!

    Cheers

According to my information, the 44th Tank Bn supported the
6th at Lone Tree Hill/Maffin Bay.

The 675th AAA apparently was attached at Sansapor.

Dave, thanks again. Sounds like the attachments were for short periods. I'm comparing it to ETO practice in which attachments often stayed with a division for the entire campaign.

    Cheers

    Welcome,

If you are interested in the TD battalions I have a picture I acquired from the National Archives (you may have seen it - its of a Jackson during the Battle of the Bulge). If you haven't seen it before just click on my website url below, go to galleries and go to the Black and White World War II pictures page.

If you are interested in sharing I would be more than happy to post any pictures you may want to on my website. Just check out some of the pics already posted therein first - so you can get a feel for what I am looking for (including sourcing).

    Dave,

Thanks for the link to the images. I will get started on at least one pic and corresponding write up. I will get the image (and sourcing) up for my June 2009 Updates. If it's ok with you I will credit both you and the archives.

    Steve,

I had 21 photos printed on my April 10 visit to the Archives.

I then scanned them and adjusted brightness and contrast
    in PS CS2.

I'll send them to you with the ID data.

By the way, although I discovered most of the photos I liked
and had printed had been published, for instance, in Roy Lancaster's
book on the Bushmasters (158th RCT) or in the History of the 6th Infanty Division,
some such as the Beggs' photo have apparently never been published.

On my next trip, I intend to have one of the Bradley photos
    printed.
