I don't know if anyone here has read it but Echoes From The Infantry is a novel by my 11th grade english teacher Frank Nappi. The book is a story of 2 brothers who did not understand why there dad was not so nurturing. When their mother dies one of the sons is cleaning the attic and stumbles upon his dads footlocker and starts to understand his father more and the book then goes through stories of his father and his experiances in WWII and the stress he felt when he went home. The book is actually based on the stories of two WWII vets, one of which I have personally talked to and was a POW for several months. It's a really great story and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good read. Its fairly short as well.

Frank Nappi's Echoes From The Infantry is a gripping novel of young James McCleary, a grunt from the 95th infantry division and a native of Long Island, New York. The novel begins with James son cleaning the attack after the death of his mother. All his son's life he wondered why his dad had a problem with attachment to his children. When he stumbles upon his dads old footlocker and discovers pictures of his father in the army as well as the letters written back and fourth between his mother and father. Through these letters the story of young James McCleary is told. As the story progresses James's son begins to understand his father more and learns of the horrid things his father experianced which led to his difficulty in connecting with his family. He traces his fathers time in the war from the first day he fired his rifle, all the way through the Battle of the Buldge and into his fathers stint in a German POW camp. The story never loses sight of the horror that is war.
