I wanted this one seperately because I wanted to make sure it didn't get lost in the other thread.

My question is, since I do have two photo CDs already made-I am supposing that I can also go that route in obtaining a photo for my background theme? or do I still need to have a scanner?

Thanks in advance and take care--Carl.

hey carl, if you have the pics handy.....all you do is right click on the pic and you will see the option "set as desktop backround" - just click that

Hi Andy, I owe ya big time and thanks ;-)) Im going to try that later this evening.

Sorry for asking more questions but--since I have two photo CDs made up-is it possible to send pics to someone using the ones I have on CD? ;-))

I almost feel like im back attending the Technical College I went to in Harlingen-15-16 years ago.

ya carl you should be able to, (like in an email you mean? )

when you're typing your email, you should see an "paperclip icon " (attachments) on the toolbar

right, you click it, and a window would open up - from here you would find the photo(s) you want (in this case on a cd) .......(you probually go looking in 'my computer' for the cd, open it up and click on the photo)

then click ok......you then wait for the file/photo/ or document to be "attached" to the email.

just remember to check the size of the photos as an email can only hold so much info/attachments.....so say you wanted to send 12 pics to someone - in that case you would probually need to send maybe 3 emails with 4pics attached to each - (this would be unless you resized the pics.....but that can be a lession for another day ;))

    hope this helps mate

Carl ... The easiest way to 'work' with your photos is to first 'upload' them onto your PC, it will save you having to keep swapping discs over. If you don't have any pictures already saved on your PC, go to the 'My Pictures' folder and 'click' file (top left) then new to create a file. Simply insert the photo CD into your disk drive ... (you'll see a disc icon next to your cursor as it loads)... A window will pop-up giving you options, choose 'save/upload to a file on my PC'. Follow the on screen instructions ... simple ... If I can do it then it aint that difficult :)

For uploading onto ww2f ... threads already exist to put you on the right path ... Plus there's plenty of know how if you get stuck. :)

Hi Andy, I fooled around with it for about 2 hrs last night but stil had a problem or two. I also found out my Brother doesn't know how to post pics either-and i thought he was abit of acomputer Wiz ;-))

I didn't go to bed till 4 AM myself. I was busy with the pics thing, then played some scenarios of Sid Meiers Civil War games-and got my butt kicked by both sides when I played opposite them. I did win several skirmishes-but boy do I need to practice a lot more. Afterdoing this, I did manage to secure those Panzergrenadier Officers Collartabs I mentioned yesterday. They are in the mail as of several hours ago and hopefully will be here in a week or so. ;-))

Hi BlackS/ I did place the 2nd pic CD I had made-in first-and since it was a Wal-Mart disc, it forced me to download their program and once i did-I could see the images pop-up. I learned how to save them, how to crop them and such but couldn't get them to "send" anywhere. I was going to test send them to myself and when I tried to use their Outlook email thing-or whateveritscalled? it didn't work.

I then tried the Kodak pic CD-and it didn't offer me or try to force me to download software, but I couldn't figure out how to save the pics from this disk. As son as I put it into the computer-a slideshow started and all I could do was to turn pictures right and left. Later today im going to fool around with it some more and see if a brillient thought occurrs and manybe I will actually learn something-before pestering all of you Techies here ;-)) If i can learn how to get my pics up on this site-it will save Skipper some skin from being worn off of his fingertips from all the posting he's done for me;-D

Hey Carl, if you are using Vista try right clicking on the picture and see if "Save Picture As" shows up. If it does that wil be sent to your pictures part of your start menu from which you can go to Control Panel and customize you "apprearance" by choosing that pic from your picture file. That is how I put my SS-396 on as my wallpaper, anyhow.

Hi Carl ... Digital photography has been a hobby of mine for some time, didn't have a PC at first so relied on 'store' burnt CD's for my pics. When I got my PC I was, pretty much 'computer illiterate' :circlejerk: ... my approach is to press all the buttons until I either: Break it, or figure it out !! The result was equal measures of both :D

With the Kodak CD ... load it, then exit the slide show back to your desktop. 'Click' - "Start" (bottom left) then "My Computer", you'll see either a list or icons ... 'Right' click the "CD/DVD Drive" (that the disc is in), then on the pop-up list select "copy" - choose the folder you want to copy to in "My Pictures" and let your PC do 'it's thing'.

Now ... as far as uploading onto ww2f, you have two options ... either the "clickable thumbnail" like such ....
    View attachment 6395

Or a full size image ....

For the 'thumbnail' ... scroll down from the message screen to 'Additional Options' ... click 'Manage Attachments' ... then 'Browse' ... select image from your PC ... click upload........... click on the 'paper clip' above the message window then on the file name that appears, and job done (you may not see the image in a preview but it is there)... submit in the normal fashion an you'll see the results.

Try that method first matey... one step at a time...;)

Carl go get a free photobucket account and store all your pics on it. you then have the option(s) to either use as already mentioned the manage attachments at the bottom of your posts when you are in the advanced mode or go and click the photo icon below the phototbucket photo, should be the thrid one down out of 3, highlight it in blue and then hit copy. now it is saved and then you can simply "paste" it here on the site as you deemed desire. what's nice about that account and free is that you can preview it first whether you want to post it or delete it into oblivion.

Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket

as black snake stated go slow and have fun as that is what it is about.

deine freund E ~ also right click the pic, a box will come up as the guys mentioned you will see "set as desktop". when you click that the pic may/may not fit the parameters of your screen. see if at the time you can put the pic in stretch mode as that will fit the width perfectly unless the said photo is in vertical format.

Hi Clint, im not sure what this computer has but when I loaded the CDs in-the first one was a WalMard CD-and the only way I could get to see my pictures-was to download their programs. All of that was easy enough and I only had to click a few things. The bad thing was that I couldn't do more than view and save the pics on that Cd.

I tried the 2nd CD-which is a Kodak one-and all that happened was that as soon as it turned on-it started showing every picture I had on it as a slide show and didn't offer me anyhting like saving the pics and such. Im waiting for my brother to come back home and see if he can figure out what I possibly did wrong? ;-)) His computer has this and other abilitaies too-but he said he never had tried using them to see what goes on.

Hi BlackS/ you make it sound so easy-but i fooled around with anything I could think of and or whatever showed on my screen-buy gave up after about 2 hours-was a bit irritated-and I put in a Sid Meiers Civil War gams and played the Battle of Antietam for almost 8 hours. ;-)) Im going to write all this stuff down and try again a bit later today and see what happens??

PS, what is that object in your photo? is it some sort of Mulberry left over from WWII? or some cut-up salvaged barge?

Hi E, thank you for this help as well. Ill try it a bit later thi evening after I get back from the grocery store. I'd like to be able to help save some skin on Skippers fingertips-for all the posting of pics he postd for me ;-)) Oh and if I get lucky, I might be able to get the 3rd CD made sometime this weekend-bu still not sure exactly what's planned here? ;-))

Oh, I can't remember if I told you already or not? but, I FINALLY snagged me a copy of Patzwall an Scherzers book-volume 2. I might try getting vol 1 from Huesken in a few weeks.

big expenditures on those books C ~ but I know they are worth it to your dedicated research. Still think somewhere in the States those volumes can be had instead of paying the extra Euros for shipping and transfer fee(s)

Hi E, no doubt. I tried Amazon.com and the two dealers in Colorado and a few others-but none had the book in stock. I WISH I could have found it here-i'd have it by now ;-)) I got both the book and those Panzergrenadiers Offz Tabs from Kay @ Weitze. If I get vol 1? after that I plan on getting the 3 vol series that Detlav wrote and published some years ago-if its still available? ANyway, these three volumes are of the Pour le Merite guys.

Big expendatures are right-vol 2 w/ shipping is 95 Euro. Thankfully this is the last of those kinds of books I need-so next time I spend that much for books-it will be for more than one. I thought abput trying to collect those Range Listes, but nah-I don't know how many they have printed-more than 30-40? volumes?? They would be nice to have but-do I really need to know the name of every German Officer to serve in any of their armed services from the 1880s till 1944? ;-))

Hey Carl ... I know what you're saying mate, some things on PC's are easier than others, but if you're not sure how to do something you can always click 'Start' then 'Help' - select a Q from the list and follow the step by step instructions.

Thanks to Erich for explaining the 'Photobucket' approach ... (that was option 2) ... I use Photobucket and Flickr, but find Flickr a bit too awkward. I'd definitely recommend P/bucket.

You should also consider downloading an 'image editing' program ... Try "Photoshop Album 3.2" and "Picture Re-size Starter" ... both are good, and are free from Here

Yes, that is a picture I took on the beach at Arromanches last year of one of the "Mulberry" piers that now sits on the sand at low tide.

Hi Blacksnake, thanks for all your help as well as for Erich too. Im going to spend some of this weekend fooling around with this stuff a bit and see if I actually learn anything ;-)) Thank you for the link as well.

I wish they would take that Mulberry out of the water and preserve it. There can't possibly be many existing-at least that im aware of ;-)

Erich-speaking of Kay, just this morning he made me a book offer that I can't refuse-and a great price at that. It includes both volumes of Patzwall/Sherzers DKiG/DKiS books, and also the 1st volume of the 3 vol series on the Pour le Merite guys-this one has a list of all names, dates, and the units they were in. :-D :-D I had tinkered with the idea of getting Niemanns 3-vol series in case I seriously got into Imperial awards-well, this is officially my first step into that endeavor. Once things stablize for me savings wise, I might add to the P.L.M names-other Imperial Knights Crosses and such. I knew there is a whole slew of books out there available on them.

    Thanks again guys--C.

No problem Carl ... We've all been there mate, I know I have, and I'm still learning. These things can be frustrating at the best of times ... as you say, have a fool around with it (there's no 'self destruct' button on the keyboard):D

There are plenty of "easy to..." guides out there, and plenty of knowledge on here if you get stuck
