Hi Guys I'm Doc from England - yes it still exists inspite of all attempts to 'rebrand' us as UK! Found you guys while starting to put together a SEOW campaign based on Sardinia around 1943. Read an ongoing discussion and decide that this was one forum I couldn't just walk away from! My past - mathematician, programmer, internet designer and best of all now relaxing due to 'early retirement'! So it's now loads of sport, bridge and wwii simming via IL2 and SEOW. Connections to wwii - my father flew a massive number of bombing raids as a radio op, mainly in halifaxes (some in wellingtons) - including the 1000 bomber raid. Eventually he was shot down and ended up in Stalag Luft III. He was one of the tunnel diggers in the real "Great Escape" but fortunately he didn't win an escape ticket in the raffle or I probably wouldn't be here today! He took part in 'the death march' as prisoners were moved in the depths of winter as the allies advanced closer. My brother still has his flying log book and a book used by the guys to add drawings, cartoons, poetry etc. Unfortunately no other members of the family can now get access to these! Cheers Doc
Welcome Doc nice to see you here from England, that makes me from Wales the UK thing being put aside hope to here more about your Dad and the Great Escape and have you read the book The Last Escape, which tells the story of that March all the best. Jason
Hello Doc -- Welcome! This is a fine place and I am sure we will all enjoy hearing any stories that your father handed down to you. Please do share them! Cheers!
Hello, Doc from England. Great to have you here. I wonder,if you're dad was apart of the horse jumping team!
Welcome to a fine place. Reading The Great Escape when I was a boy helped spark my interest in WW2. I would love to hear more about your father's experiences.
