World's Oldest Man - Veteran of Both World War

    LONDON, England (CNN) -- Henry Allingham, the world's oldest man and the oldest surviving British veteran from World War I, has died at the age of 113, his care home said Saturday.

    The saddest part of this story is that he had so many direct descendants and none of them lived in England any more. I hope he was not alone at the end.

    A fly-past of replica planes is being held to mark the passing of Britain's oldest World War I veteran this afternoon.

    Hundreds of people lined the streets to pay their respects to the world's oldest man and British war hero Henry Allingham.
    The 113-year-old died peacefully at his sleep on July 18 at his care home St Dunstan's, near Brighton.

    It's always sad to see a veteran pass on, especially one who has done more for the Crown, and the free world, than any man could dream of. Though I, like many of you perhaps, have never had the honour of meeting Mr. Allingham, I still lament this great loss. Although he may be gone, his memory, and the memory of those he fought with, shall live on until the end of days.

    On a slightly unrelated note, two of Mr. Allingham's Great-Grandchildren are enlisted sailors in the United States Navy. It's good to see a noble tradition of service continue on.
