Sadly the casualty lists would probably use up all your available paper. The British alone sustained up to 30,000 casualties on some DAYS in Flanders -and French and German forces were equally hard hit!

Again -the British lost over 70,000 men whose graves are not recorded -they were simply blown up or disappeared in the mud and mire. Tens of thousands more lie buried in the many cemeteries that dot the area today.

Flanders was a slaughterhouse in which the generals had run out of ideas and simply kept sending in more and more men to prove that they were dedicated to the task at hand. It was a war of attrition -you kept hoping that you would simply wear the enemy down -but all players were determined NOT to give up!

You may safely say that half a million men died in the Flanders campaign.

Pretty impressive -but terribly sad -and a total waste!
