    Hi all,

(I have since posted a new thread in the information request forum)

I am so glad I found this site, I am a woman on a mission. I hope that in hearing your stories I will be able to piece together my family history and find out who my grandfather is.

I was given a letter that was written by a US soldier to my german grandmother dated the 17th August, 1944. The letter was sent from New Guinea after the US soldier had left Australia at the end of 1943 or early 1944. The letter is signed Leonard, no last name.

This US soldier had been stationed in Brisbane, Australia in 1943 when he met my grandmother. It was during this time that my father was conceived and 6 months later the soldier was posted to New Guinea. My father was born on 2nd Oct, 1944.

My grandmother passed when her son was very young and he has no memory of his fathers details. It was only after a distant relative revealed the letter she had been holding on to all these years that we knew anything about this soldier.

I have only been able to piece together this time frame from the date on the letter and the time my father was born. I am hoping somebody out there knew him and remembers his story. I know its a long shot but I need answers so any information welcome.

    thanks,

    Infoseeker

Infoseeker, welcome! Your search will prove difficult but I am sure that the Rogues who frequent this site will do their best to help. Might it be possible for you to scan and post photos of both sides of the letter? There may be clues. Also, I suggest you start a new thread in the information request section of the forum, as that will get more traffic than the new member area.

    Cheers!
