Hi to all, during the last weekend, on the gothic line, in the Raticosa pass area, I've found this "object". I suppose is a part of artillery projectile. There is some one who knows some more details or info? Many thanks Guys.
Looks like a shipping plug for an artillery round. It would be removed and the impact fuse/ detonator would be put in it's place prior to being fired
Its actually part of an American designed fuze,The top thin metal cone has broken or rotted away ,They are often found in this condition,,I cant quite make out what the script is around the bottom but usually it will be stamped with the fuze type. Attatched image shows one i have cut in my collection,in use from WW2 to Today they havn,t changed much over the years ,
Spotter is ( as usual ! ) quite right - I found a similar one in the Falaise Gap last year which was identified by another forum member ( 272VGD IIRC...)
Thank you Spotter for these photos about it. On one side is stamped FUZE PD M57, and the other side LOT 8521-43 PA 3-42 . Do you think tis fuze was used only on artillery projectiles or on Sherman's tank ammunitions ? Thanks
