    Hello,

    I am looking for any information about the following WWII Troop Carrier Groups and Squads from the 9th Air Force:

    Nov 1944. - April 45- Merryfield.
    50th Troop Carrier Wing- CO- Colonel Julian M. Chappell
    441st Troop Carrier Group- CO Lt. Col. Theodore G Kershaw

    9th air force, 12th tactical air command
    70th fighter wing, Hqtrs Squadron Munich, Germany Aug 1945- Mar 1946.

    If you have any information about my grandfather Francis X. Boyle, or any information about missions flown by any of these squads, i would love to hear from you.

    you've tried the several internet links to 9th AF assoc's correct ? from the primary one if it still exists you should be directed to the units you have specified

    There's a great book about the 9th AF called 'Support and Strike'. The one I've linked will cost you around $17 delivered. This compared to Amazon at $50 delivered!

    check out Ken Rusts book on the 9th though you have specific needs that may not be covered as Ken's book is operational in the theater primarily with the fighters though bombers and TAC

    70th Fighter Wing from 70th fighter wing

    (an extract from AAF Combat Units of World War II, Maurer, ed.)

    Constituted as 70th Fighter Wing on 11 Aug 1943 and activated on 15 Aug. Moved to England in Nov 1943 and assigned to Ninth AF. Served in the European theater from Feb 1944 to May 1945, operating with various fighter groups assigned or attached for brief periods of time. Remained in Europe after the war as part of United States Air Forces in Europe. Inactivated in Germany on 25 Sep 1947.
