What might have worked, is if Hitler had kept going right through Poland and into Russia. Providing he had prepared in advance to do just that.

It may have continued in October, but by Nov/Dec it was eventually stopped (the operation eventually failed) in a large part becauase of that "undermining"

By October they were already 2 months behind in their advance on Moscow

    Hello Hufflepuff,

Nobody, ecept for some loonies at some mental institution believed that the Wehrmacht could occupy the USSR completely by end of 1942.
    What makes you think so?

According to the information presented to Hitler and the General Staff, a Barbarossa outcome as planed and anticipated in 1940 was far from being unrealistic.

The true strenght of the Soviet Army and - thus the resulting losses on the Axis partners - made Barbarossa for what it was - one hell of a bloody mistake.

Imagine Monty at Al alamein - attacking a Rommel who would have had almost twice the forces Monty had estimated, plus outfitted in larger numbers with Pz IV's (T-34/KV-1) and supplied - good by ol' Monty.

    Regards
    Kruska

Another well known point that may already be known, hitler seemed to be encouraged also by the horrific casualties suffered by the Russians during the Finnish Talvisota added an element. Call me a nationalist, but as for me, I regard those brave defenders of Suomi as 'heroes' in the highest regard.
