Hi, Just joined the site which I found looking for info on the RNAS HMS MERLIN at Donibristle.Fife which was renamed HMS COCHRANE in the mid 50s,I was stationed there in 1960 and was on the lookout for photos of the camp and was directed to WW2Forum by Dumfirmline Achieves Office, someone there thought that I might be lucky here. I am ex RN served from 1953 until 1973 ending up as a CPOM(E), employed with GEC.Maryport.Cumbria until closure in the late 80s,went into the road haulage business with my son,now retired and now busy being a repair man for the Grandchildren---"mend this Granda, mend that", how can you refuse and always rewarded with hugs and kisses!!!!!!!!! Looking forward to making my contributions to the site---interested in anything Navy or WW1 and WW2 tours. Dave.
Thanks for the welcome Ray, looking thro` the forums I feel that I am going to enjoy the ride, hope I am not out numbered by the Army or RAF but I hope to stand up against the odds----be warned tho` I am a bit of a "wind up" merchant --went with the service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome aboard, Dave. There are plenty of helpful Rogues about, and some of us colonials can even make good contributions. We look forward to your posts. Have fun.
Hi Dave, Welcome to the forums! The Airfield Research Group actually published a factfile of Donibristle a while back, but I don't have a copy myself. I can probably help more with ground installations, though I might be able to help with units.
Absolute tosh Sniper...The Jolly Jack is wellcome as long as he keeps his flares tucked in, and doesnt relate too many When I was in Guz stories...Or if only we had the Ark....After all...All the nice girls love a sailor...all the nice girls love a tarrr... Well seconds after the Raf and Pongos have been there. Where would we be without a navy....Hard a st'brd...full ahead both...All those sort of weird and wonderful things they say..And they do good knots. Just dont give jolly Jack a rifle...Or if you do as a the bootnecks would say....Beat retreat..
