If you dont see me here much in the coming days, its because I fell victim to food poisoning thanks to eating the Rice w/ chopped Chicken-dish they had. I don't usually get food from delis but had to yesterday as I had had nothing to eat all day and was too busy to do so during the morning and early afternoon hrs. Anywya, im not making fun of W-M but I also wasn't the only person to fall victim to food poisoning who ate the same stuff I had. While I was there-I learned of three others who got sick-one had to be taken away in an Ambulance. Anyway, when I do buy from W-M deli-the food is usually OK and I dont get sick from it. Today im still reeling from it and my tummy isnt letting me forget about it.
I am amazed at you Carl. Why in the world would you throw a lip over anything at (what you call) Wally-World? Isn't there a cheaper way to make yourself ill between your place and the shopping center? I never ate anything at a shopping center, not K-mart, not Target, not SkopKo, and certainly not Wal-Mart. I understand "too busy", but come on here bud!
Only time I ever eat at a deli is at Safeway but I guess this could have happened anywhere, even at home! Get well soon Carl!
crap happens literally,,,,,be well Carl. hey go hunt down that German deli that food will cheer thee up in no time/ E ~
Sorry to hear you got sick Carl! I eat at the WM deli almost every day I work, and have never gotten sick...I have however gotten food poisoning from a dinner that cost me almost 100 dollars (for one!) a few years back in Atlanta.
When it comes to meats and veggies, I am very picky as to from where I acquire them. I don't mind paying more for food that I can trust the quality. Walmart is the last place I would buy perishable food from. Good luck Carl
Hope you get to feeling better Carl. Maybe you should try drinking some tea to get your stomach to calm down.
hi Clint, it was either them, starvation or-Jeffs favorite fast food place--McDonalds ;-)0 I go see an Internal Meds Dr this afternoon. Sooo, I am hoping to know the verdict today ;-))
thanks my frioend. Also, If i eat ata Deli-its usually only HEB Deli as they have the strictest policies I know of on food prep and cleanliness. HEB is the Countries 5th or so largest foodstore chain-got its start in Texas BTW ;-))
Hi E, Luke, Texson, Ike, 107th, thank you all for the nice wishes. Im still reeking quite badly from the event. I found a great Internal meds Dr just yesterday and have an appointment this afternoon. I had a bout with F/P in the past when iw as in College, had me off my feet almost a week. this time it doesnt seem so bad but-I sure have to make sure a restroom is closeby. I was riding the bus last night and to just go about 4 miles, it was not good for the system. This morning I are a roll for breakfast-hoping it would help dry up my insides a bit so i could go do some errands, and it made me feel like heaving again. E, I havent found a German Deli here yet but have been actively lookig. Mostly we have everything from; Mexican to Chinese, Pakistani, indian, other Oriental places, Greek (which I will try before i exit this expensive town) Hungarian (which i also intend trying before leacving this burg) Italian, Czech, I even found some Iranian place and I heard they had good food-I just dont know what it is--yet ;-)) and soem other odds-and ends. Mostly I fopund these going up and down Noert Lamar, Congress, Guadalupe, and SOuth Congress Avenues. Some places I intend on visiting are: Terre=a Burger-which are Hamburgers made using only Veggies-like Soy Beans and such, The Roaring Fork-which looks like a Suit and Tie place, QAnnies, which looks fancy but will go there anyway ;-)), The Texas Chili bowl-only when my innards can stand spices) Five guys Burgers, several Southern stykle Diners and a bunch of Pizza, Pita and other Sandwhich shops. Oh and there are a few others with interesting name sI will vist-like: Kick Butt Coffee, Hole in the Wall, adn a couple of places inside Co-ops which are near U.T. Hi Luke, I have eaten stuff from WM delis many times in the past-mainly their roasted chicken, Chicken Fingers, a couple of Corn Dogs and such but, this is the only time I ever got sick eating at one. I wouldnt have openly said anything about it had i not learned and saw-three other people who got sick from eating the samething I ate. I had this dish before and it tasted good and I didnt get sick from it then-so I don't know what happened this time aroud ;-)) It might have just been sitting there too long or something? I did notice that the veggies i had in it were not moist and soemwhat dry? as wwas some of the rice and chicken pieces? So im thuinking that this was just sitting in the heater too long? Im not angry with Wm or anything but-ill know to make sure next time to make sure the stuff i get is fresh out of the cooker ;-)) Thank you Tex, and not in Corpus yet. That is still some months away thanks to some paperwork snags here. I still need to get one item before I can even get on the waiting list for the place im eventually going to be at. Im hoping that when they get my stuff-that the waiting list is no longer than 3 months. This town is too expensive for me with what money I am making ;-)) Thank you ike ;-)0 and I usually prep my own stuff but, my Brother hasnt even hooked up the stove yet-so im either forced to eat outside the house-or eat those shelve-top dinners-which im sick of eating. I cant even make a can of soup-which i love having as dinner since its a light type meal and easy on my tummy. Thanks 107th, I did try the Tea route but it made me feel even worse since tea is a dietary thing making you use the restroom a bit quicker ;-)) Ill know for sure what it is hopefully by 3;30 today. Im also hoping that it isnt my ulcer coming back-that was nasty the first time round (1999) and I was out of work for 3 weeks.
I hope it is'nt an ulcer as well Carl. Had an ulcer just a year ago definitely a painful experience. All the best to you pal.
Carl, IF it might be an ulcer, read this about the cause of ulcers.... http://www.hbci.com/~wenonah/new/ulcer.htm
Carl, I hope you feel better but eating at Food Courts is a little like Russian Roulette, that goes for fast food joints as well. But even the produce in some of the best of stores can be contaminated these days. Nothing like fresh vegetables grown in the backyard. The best food is fresh made at home. Carl, if your stomach is still bothering you, it might be that you'll have to hit the rice and bananas diet for a week.
I'm not Carl, but there is a huge German/Nordic contingent in east Texas. It is amazing actually how many towns were founded by those of German/Dutch heritage. Goto: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Texan for a pretty good run-down of the German immigrants to Texas before and after its independence.
There sure is... Gruene, eine deutsche Gründung in Texas: Wo einst Baumwolle verarbeitet wurde, gastieren heute Country-Stars New Braunfels was founded in 1845 by a group of German settlers at the Comal River. The land acquisition completed the Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, an agent of the aristocratic society of Mainz, who wanted to establish in the then independent Republic of Texas, a German model state. It was indeed nothing, and the prince had returned soon return to Germany, but the German colony grew and prospered. And to this day has been preserved around New Braunfels, the memories of good old Germany - especially bakeries and beer gardens are trying very hard to convey something of German cosiness. Or at least what they take to be: As everywhere in America, the German community here is very krachledern therefore, and the synonym for this is beer and sausages. At carnivals in the area are as common as bratwurst with sauerkraut, fajitas or tacos. Texas German - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Texas German is a dialect of the German language that is spoken by descendants of German immigrants who settled in the Texas Hill Country region in the mid-19th century. These immigrants founded the towns of New Braunfels, Fredericksburg, Boerne, Schulenburg, Weimar, and Comfort. Most German Texans continued to speak German in their homes and communities, but were required to learn English when Texas education rules mandated English-only instruction during and after World War I. Due to the growth of these communities and cultural bias during World War I and World War II, Texas German speakers drifted towards English, and few passed the language to their descendants. Could be worse Carl, you might have been "working" in the loading dock of our Wal-Mart and been required to defend yourself with your .25 auto. Fortunately nobody died (it was a .25 after all), and the guy using the pistol was never charged for anything. Gotta love Montana for this one, the "castle doctrine law". Schmidt was arrested at the scene of the shooting last Aug. 10 and was released from the county jail a short time later while the County Attorney’s Office investigated. He was released under Montana’s then-recently enacted House Bill 228, known as the “castle doctrine” law, which says a person has a natural right to use firearms in self-defense and doesn’t have to call law enforcement before using “justifiable” force. See: Walmart shooter won’t face charges Getting Food Poisoning is a bummer, but being a bu**head and getting shot while working at Wal-Mart is different.
Hi 107th, Tex, thanks to both of ya. Also, I had an Ulcer back in 1999. I was off from work for 3 weeks and had to take three different meds. I got in plently of Nintendo 64 play time and became an expert on the Sarges men, Star Wars and Golden Eye games ;-)) I know that Ulceras can have many causes-Stress, and other reasons-but thanks for the link, the info will be somehting I will wrinkle into my brain.
Hi Pete, E, Pete, thanks my friend. Today im feeling a little better but could hardly eat a thing. I was out and about today-had to get my blood tested for my Specialists appointment which is next week. My Dr said he would not know exactly what to tell me till I get the blood test (which I did. Count Dracula had his mid day snack today ;-)) My specialist visit is with a Gastro-whatchamacallit-and they are going to do some tests on me. I figure what I have is not only bad timing with the food that made me sick but, I am thinking it is what I had about 2 and 3 years ago when I had to go to the Emergency Room in order to get two IVs and meds-then was supposed to be on a liquid and soft food diet for a few weeks-which I totally ignored and felt fine eating real food later the same day after I got out of the ER. They wanted me to dine on Broth-I HATE broth-so that was out of the question. I was also supposed to eat Jello-and I was able to eat some-but only because i had not had any in years and could stomach it again ;_)) Hi E, most of the German contingent here-is located in and around San Antonio, New Braunfels, various small towns that dot the Hill Country, and around Houston. I havent seen one German restaurant yet. Ive seen Greek, Mex, Italian, Oriental, Indian, PAkistani, Iranian, Hungarian, Romanian, and one form somewhere else but i forget where? Id love to find a German restuarant-I havent had any Wienerschnitzel, Jagerschnitzel or even HAckfleisch-since my 2000 visit to the old country ;-))
