Was there gold in it or something? The seller found it on a church steeple? I am thinking that Normandy would be lousy with allied airborne helmets.

I used to have one as well as a WWII British para lid. However, I gave both away about 10 or so years ago :)

I don't have the web site offhand, but there is an outfit that takes any era M-1 helmet (WWII through Vietnam) and paints and ages them with various WWII unit insignia, from Paratroopers to Medics, to infantry division, Ranger, you name it. Not only is the painting spot on, but he ages the helmet to make it look like it went to Hell and back. Depending on the unit, a helmet averaged about $75.00 USD. To the untrained eye, some crook could pass one of these off as an original. I bet its been tried.

you can add 26% fees to this price...... The reason it is so rare is that is one of the few still existing from the Saint Mere l'Eglise landing of June 5th 1944. on the same sale they had Lee Enfields rifles that were not bought for 200 euros.... whe reis the logic?
What I find dramatic about this is that another of our fine museums is scattered around and sold to investors and this heritage will probably not be displayed publicly again for a long time.

The worse is that some of their mannequins are repros or partly repro , mentionned as such and still bought way above the market price by some people who have more money than brains. Others were not sold, whereas for 300 you would have gotten a complete mannequin with genuine gear but not "looking as good"...

some people buy at any cost skipper, that keeps the real enthusiast in his place, as most will bid to a realistic value..

Hi Marc, do you have a pic of it?

I know that Europe and America use commas differntly when it comes to money.

Do you mean 46 Euros or 46 thousand Euros?
