This year I went to the Ohio valley military show or Show of shows as it has been called. It was in Louisville, Kentucky easily over 1000 vendors selling militaria from the time of Roman empire up to todays modern warfare. I went to pick up odds and ends for the collection talk with vendors but mostly to get autographs because at this show some of the members from Band of Brothers were there like Lynn "Buck" Compton, Earl McClung and Bradford Freeman. Also the book Filthy Thirteen author and soldier Jake McNiece was on hand who decieded on the mohawk and face paint look he is also one of the few who completed 4 combat jumps. There were many other pathfinder paras on hand and veterans from d-day up to the end of the war. Great honor to get to shake my heroes hands but to also get to listen to their stories and getting some questions answered all were very friendly and very humble. I forgot my camera of all things but some friends went with me and took some pictures and I should have those soon to post. Wish I could describe in better detail about the show for you all I can say is if your looking for anything for your collection it is at this show. The first pictures are of my program the book I had autographed and just a small smattering of items for sale.
Here are my latest acquisitions from the show a ww1 bacon container dated 1916 a Japanese flag from a merchant ship the holes were said to be from gunfire. A U.S. army catchers mask and a folding machete. Which was supposed to be broken had a metal chip stuck inside was able to pull it out and now it closes again. It also has the blade cover.
Thanks. Yes, lots of good finds some still going through like paper items and others still dealing with the dealers on a price. Here are my autographs of the Band of Brothers. The photo with Forrest Guth's signature and Guarnere's I am showing because I took it with me to the show to have Floy Talberts signature on it but he couldn't make it because of the weather. But, Earl McClung spotted it and wanted to have a look it then he showed the rest of them the photo. Forrest Guth died just this past year and they were all touched to see him and his signature. It really proves the comraderie is there and it is not fake or over dramatized by the film. These fella's really care a great deal about each other. The mag is a special edition from 2004.
There were 1622 tables to be exact. I have a trip report up on the WTG if any of you are members over there.
1,622 tables!! I knew I did some walking that day. I was a kid in the candy store. RRCOLLECTOR did you attend? If so, and you have pictures could you post one so the rest of the forum could see the shear size of this event? I should have some soon to post as well. Really hated forgetting my camera. Thanks
I have a trip report with photos over on the WTG...if you are a member you can go and check it out over there. I attended the show from Thurdsay-Saturday...had a great time...bought some great Kriegsmarine badges from Jason Burmeister.
