Dear colleagues, has any one ever heard of a documentary film "The Unknown War", which was made in the USSR in 1979 specially for the USA, with Burt Lancaster as a narrator? 20 episodes tell about the war on the Eastern Front, from June 22, 1941 to May 9, 1945. That's the beginning of it, with Russian soundtrack.
"The Unknown War" (1978) Too bad it's never been officially released on DVD. There are sites which sell DVD copies from the original VHS.
Yep, it was quite good if I recall. Been a while since I saw it. Unknown War was very, very good. Another little known movie that I have never seen repeated was on CBS Cable channel, a very brief affair back in the early 80's. They did a show titled 'The Death of Adolf Hitler', which was the very best 'bunker' movie I have ever seen. Outstanding, if I remember right.
Excellent as I recall. And it went a long way in explaining the national trauma that the USSR went through in the 1940s. Buy The Unknown War on DVD JeffinMNUSA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJSDS-SLiA4
