    Hi,
New member to this forum. Looking for information about my Father's unit and its battles during WWII.

His name is: John W. Griffin from Hyde Park, Mass.
Unit: Company "F", 2nd Battalion, 311 Regiment, 78th Lightning Division

Was with the unit from when it sailed from the United States until the end of WWII.
    Thanks
    Slick193

The 78th Infantry Division had a rough baptism of fire. They took over positions of my father's unit, the 8th Infantry Division in the Huertgen Forest. Although you will find unit histories, an excellent account from the perspective of a German unit that clashed with the 78th ID is Amazon.com: Victory Was Beyond Their Grasp: With the 272nd Volks-Grenadier Division from the Huertgen Forest to the Heart of the Reich (9780977756322): Douglas E. Nash, Edward Miller, Tom Houlihan: Books

The 311th Infantry is mentioned often in this account. Good hunting.
