SEOUL (Reuters) – A South Korean naval ship was sinking on Friday after possibly being hit by a North Korean torpedo and several sailors were killed, South Korean media reported. A South Korean warship later fired at an unidentified vessel toward the north, indicating a possible attack, and the South's presidential Blue House was holding an emergency security meeting, the Yonhap news agency said. Satelite photos show no NKorean ships in the area, the explosion remains a mystery as of about 45 minutes ago.
Kim has been making a lot of noise lately about his nukes. Is he trying to shake us down for more money? 'We wouldn't want something to get broke, would we?'
I agree Clint, Though an updated article claims the ships demise came only hours after the North threated "unpredictable strike" so initially I can not blame anyone for finger pointing. FOXNews.com - South Korean Sailors Reportedly Die as Ship Sinks Near North Korea
The South seems to be getting a little "trigger happy" as well. Turned out they fired at a mis-identified flock of birds on their radar. Getting pretty testy over there, and with that sick (in every meaning of the term) Kim Ill Sung (sp?) in charge up north I don't blame them for being jumpy.
Read the Yahoo news about an hour ago. Wife called her family and they are having news bulletins about this now. Watching the SBS News channel here on Direct TV and they are covering it exclusively. Still no idea how the incident occurred (old mine, new mine, onboard catastrophy?), but the So Korean military don't play when they get pissed.
Could be a Sub that sunk it. This will have all the conspiracy theorists all over this one, or an excuse to attack the North. either way this is not good tensions are already high in that neck of the ocean.
Probably a mine. This is another example of building tension in this region. The North Koreans are trying to coax South Korea into conflict. Kim Jong Il is trying to pass off his power to his son who doesn't command the respect of many around the "Dear Leader". The North Koreans have failed to honor the cease fire agreement. One has to ask why? A conflict could unite the leadership under his son albeit a dangerous political game to play. The country is on the verge of collapse and China is its only crutch. Now the investigation can really get underway, the South Koreans have raised the stern of their sunken ship. Goto: 31 bodies recovered as part of South Korean ship is raised | Stars and Stripes There is another link to a video of the raising, but I lost track of it somewhere.
That is too bad, so did I today. I'll look around and see if I can find something else. My apologies.

Thanks Clint, I did not know about the fishing boat that sank. So Sad the loss of life, especially when trying to bring the closer families need. I wouldn't expect it to be to long before they determine the cause of the sinking. Maybe not a torpedo or mine, but definitely whether the explosion can from internally or externally.

Update, the AP reports that the South Korean ship may have been target of "human torpedo’ suicide bombers. But admits it may be two years until the whole story is fully understood. SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- Military intelligence officers warned earlier this year that North Korea was preparing a suicide submarine attack on a South Korean vessel in retaliation for an earlier defeat in a sea battle, a newspaper said Thursday. two years ... like between Munich and May 1940? I never understood why the west is so patient with this old-fashioned fourth world dictator? Is China really that happy to have this spoiled brat play with matches in it's back garden?
My impression is at this point the Chinese are just looking for a way to take the matches away but insuring he doesn't set any buildings, forrests, or other things of import on fire. Both China and South Korea worry about a flood of refugees and picking up the pieces afterward if something serious happens.
The South Koreans have raised the other half of their corvette, and retrieved one more sailor, while six remaining missing. Seoul has said it would issue its final verdict on what caused the ship to sink after it had retrieved the front section but has not given a date for releasing its findings.
