Am looking for US Army grid maps for the Italian campaign. I have action reports that reference portions of the grid system, but only the last several digits. The actual alpabetic designator the precedes these numbers apparently is assumed and never given. Anyone got any ideas?
The pinpoint mapping system known as the Modified British System can be found here: Notes sur le système de coordonnées "Britannique Modifié" utilisé sur le thêatre d'opérations européen durant la seconde guerre mondiale The site is in French. Click on the "Les grilles utilisées sur le théatre d'opérations européen" to identify the zones. "Le traducteur de coordinnées" will allow you to locate the pinpoint. Often the preceding letter is left off so the pinpoint may be shown as E0714, but you will need to know that the real coordinate is vE0714. Use the "afficher la grille correspondante" link to capture the full prefix. .
Here is the map coordinator converter site in English. Notes on the "Modified British System" used on the European Theatre of Operations during the WWII Happy hunting, Greg C.
