Im new to this forum. My Grandfather never spoke of his service in WWII. My Mother once told me that he fought in Italy but that was all she said. How do I go about finding more info? I found a sight that gave me his Army serial number: 34910596. I would appreciate a link or any other info that can help me. Thanks.
First off : Welcome Aboard! Second: This link here is a pretty comprehensive list of the agencies, by country, which can get you pointed inthe right direction: http://www.ww2f.com/information-req...d-research-i-e-family-history.html#post276279 Be sure and give "Macrusk" a PM and a salute Brad
Here you go. Info from the National Archive. Enlistment record. His service number indicate that he was drafted. The first digit is the clue. A 1 means enlisted, a 3 means drafted.
Check this thread for steps in getting information on veteran's records, if you haven't already done so. http://www.ww2f.com/military-servic...esting-copies-military-personnel-records.html Good luck and welcome to the forum.

You can apply for his Army Service Record which will give you his exact postings and dates. From there you can trace the action he faced using war diaries: you see how from a blog at uxbmalta blogspot dated 19 March. My own research resulted in a book. Good hunting.
