Grey zone is based on a true story of a group of Sonderkomando prisioners at the 4th crematorium at Auschwitz in 1944. It's the only known uprising of auschwitz prisioners.

The acting of the film I find was a little lousy, but the true story behind it is nothing but heroic.

here's some info on the true story of the Auschwitz uprising

Hi Suzie, here are a few:

Kapo-which is a foreign film from I think Czecholslovakia? I saw part of ti once when shown on TCm a few years ago. Its B&W and I think came out in the 1950s or 1960s? and was a VERY powerful film.

Another of course is: The Diarly of Anne Frank.

Not a movie but a series of movies strung together called: The Winds of War and also War and Remembrance. These mini series had so much about the holocost in them and for these to originally be shown on TV in the early to mid 1980s-and to show the powerful scenes they did show-was truely amazing. I actually cried when i saw these for the first time-and after buying the DvD sets and having watched them over 2 years ago-I almost came to tear again-those scenes internixed with actual documented vidoe-really were THAT powerful.

Thanks guys for mentioning "QBVII" and "Kapo". Very good films that seem to have been forgotton. "Kapo" starring Susan Strassburg has a nice twist in the plot that you don't see coming.
I would highly recommend Claud Lanzmann's "Shoah". Probably one of if not the best documentary on the Holocaust. Coming in at just under 10 hours and using no stock footage, it's a sobering look at the death camps as they exist today and contains some of the most memorable interviews I have ever seen. I dare anyone to watch the interview with the man who drove one of the trains that transported victims to Treblinka and not come away moved.

You're most welcome. As I mentioned in my introduction, my main focus lately has been Holocaust studies/Auschwitz and the Reich Security Services. I've always been fascinated with that aspect of 3rd. Reich history. However, I have spent a considerable amount of time over the past year collecting books and films about the last days in the Fuhrerbunker. There's just something about that story that has all the elements of a classic Greek tragedy, maybe Shakesperian in scale, I don't know. Although not a "holocaust" film, I highly recommend "Sophie Scholl: The Final Days." a German film that, unlike some of the crap that comes out of hollywood, really hits home in it's message. Should be shown alongside "Diary of Anne Frank", it's on that level.

Pizza D, I'm not sure where "Shoah" can be found online, depending on where you live, I would check with you local library or if there is a college or university close to you, they may have it as well. I'll check and see if the Shoah Foundation or the Holocaust Museum have links of if it's available any where else.

Anyway, im currently going through it slowly for Westerns and War Movies-Cold War movies and such and have run across titles but didnt write them down. Anyway, ill start looking for names for you if i can remember to do so? ;-))
