Hello! I am as much happy to find this forum as is a dog, when he gets a steak! And a bone... And this was a compliment. I have begun to uncover some details of Eastern front, since my Grandpa was there, fighting on the German side. Pmp40fire: If there is any veteran german soldiers, or those who know how to get through identification book of solider, which my grandpa had, I'll be happy to listen to. I would like to know, how to see the rank, unit and to identify the recruitment place, as well as training grounds. If anyone knows where to search for these, I'll be glad to know. DUKW Svarun (not my name but a name of vehicle )
Welcome !!! I am sure that you will have a good time here and that you will find the answers to your questions. I would recommend posting photos of the pages from your grandfathers soldbuch. I am sure you will get some good answers. Andrew
Thank you. I'll soon scan it, and post them in a new section. Here it will be a link. I'll also post my Grandpa foto. You know, the nice uniform for portet foto.
Hi Duke, was your grandfather Volksdeutsch from the Laibach area? If you need help to identify his Soldbuch I will gladly give a hand. I speak German and can decypher the old Sünderlin handwriting.
Thanks guys. I currently don't have access to soldbuch, its in my grandpa's nightdrawer. And my grandma s gone sleeping. I'll not be disturbing her now... More to say, my grandfather is dead now for a 2 month... @Skipper: I don't understand much german here, and also a question u gaved to me. Grandpa is from Kranj, and i don't know if it was recruitment order from Laibach (but I'm sure i saw something written inside like that.) Again thnx for helping if ull take time!
I will be glad to offer my assistance. I suppose you already know this but in case you don't ,Laibach was the German name for the Lubjiana district.
Thnx to greetings. Yes, i know that Laibach means Ljubljana. (And it's also a name of may favourite music& artists group).
