Do you think/believe that we have been in World War 3 past 50 years? We all know of the widespread Poverty around the world. Today we have thousands of people dieing from thirst/hunger on daily basis and it's a well know fact that colonialism is still going on in different shape or form, not really in your face type of warfare, but certainly involves taking over countries resources, using it's people to extract the resource cheap. Really sad that corporations and politicians from civilized countries take advantage of these poor nations. Fact is, MILLIONS have died and MILLIONS are dieing as we speak. It might be somewhat "indirect" but the # of people that have been dieing and are dieing is very disturbing to me. I know many will say, people have to die in order for American's to live the way we do. Not sure if I believe that, i think getting these corporations AND politicians under control and adjusting the policy could make a MUCH better world. It just blows my mind that humans have not learned a lesson from Holocaust (as it still happens) and continue to wage war for profit at the expense of NATIONS and it's people. Really sad. At what point does it all? It's obvious that lot of these countries are pissed at this point (Bolivia is a good example) and it's certain that this sort of thing basically created terrorism as we know it. I also found a very interesting movie about this... The end of Poverty? Has anyone seen it. What do you guys think?
ChaoS....... I think the name says it all. This morning I hear my baby wrens singing, the sun is shining, my tomato plants are blooming, I will be fishing with good friends this weekend. Estonia is free, Austria is thriving, Germany is strong. North Africa is thriving and communism is dead. Stop and smell the roses chicken little... THESE ARE THE GOOD OLD DAYS. WW 2 history is why we are here.
Churchill once said: "The story of the human race is war. Except for brief and precarious interludes, there has never been peace in the world." With that said, I would not say we are in WWIII. The world is going through rough times with a recession/depression, and people are upset and angry, and indeed there is much suffering in the world. This is a cliche, but take a moment like I did this morning, and take a photo of your rose bush in bloom (if you have one like me). Just be happy with your life and what you have, and worry about your family and friends. To worry about anything more too much is to cause an overload.
Great post from Ulithi, especially so as his avatar shows the actor playing first officer Charles Lightoller from "A Night to Remember." Lightoller, as we all recall, was a man with an especially cool head. The senoir surviving officer of RMS. Titanic, Lightoller was very unfairly portrayed in the De Caprio remake. Shown as a pompous ass in the new production, it does not reflect his actions on the night 14/15 April 1912. Lightoller was swept off the ship by a wave of water that dipped the bridge under. The forward funnel that fell almost took him down, trapping him against a grating, but an upsurge of hot air from deep within the doomed ship pushed him to the surface, where he climbed onto collapsable boat "B". Many people swam to "B", and quite a few of them froze. Lightoller got them to stand up, throwing their weight to and fro, counteracting the ever growing swell in the water. Charels Lightoller was the very last man to climb aboard the rescue ship "Carpathia", and even took his own yaght over the Channel ("The Sundowner") to help in the Dunkirk evacuation. Truely level headed, and a remarkably even tempered character....
But life is not all about smelling the roses.. sometimes we need to step out of this bubble we as a society live in... There is so much we can do to help a person in need and try to make poverty a thing of the past.. How many people just here in America and Canada have no food to eat, have no home. I live in a city that has been severely affected by the car industry crises. Across the river, Detroit Michigan, a city desperately in need. People are hungry.. i'm sure if your in the situation where your in need of food or wondering if you will be able to pay your bills, your not going to think to go outside and smell the roses.. Come on people, the least you can do is answer the man's question. Don't give silly answers telling him not to worry about it.. And Chaos, i don't think the world has been in World war 3 in the last 50 years. Unfortunately poverty has always been and will remain a problem around the world. it's just more noticable now because it's higher than average rates. And the reason being is greed! The rich get richer and poor get poorer. i don't want to sound like a communist here but that's why there is a crises in North America ... rich corporations/CEO'S stealing, corrupting, and bad managing the world's economy. The ones who suffer is the struggling average man who just lost his job because the factory closed and moved to china for cheap labor.
I like what you said about Greed Sunny. However, i feel those who work hard to attain jobs and occupations with lucrative dividends fully deserve to reap those benefits. I feel that Greed and Laziness are the main reasons for poverty, at least in America. I live in Cleveland myself, and i have seen success stories and failure stories, it all comes down to personal motivation to bring ones self out of that situation and strive for something more. As for World War 3, as the cultures across the world continue to become more the same, and more globalized, i think the prospect of a widespread "world" engagement dwindle. With so many economies being linked together i think it would be disastrous on a world scale. (however, who knows eh?) Through my own thought process i have come to a conclusion however, i feel that war is a tool that revitalizes all nations (even those who are on the short end of the stick). If there is going to be another world war i think it would surely break out in the middle east, should be an interesting next few years for those of us who are still within the draft age brackets.
What is happening in the World right now has always been happening. People have always died from starvation and malnutrition through out history in various places. The Western World, due very much to its climate and crops, has solved such problems in its own countries, but can not afford to feed all the starving people in the world. Blaming the Economic Crisis on the USA is also rather far fetched. Greece and Spain were well on their downward spiral before the Crap hit the Fan in the USA, and lets not forget all the financial scandals in Europe itself. You can't place the blame on anyone one country - part of the problem with Globalism is that small ripples are felt across the world to some extent. You'd also be hard pressed to find any period in Human History (as previously stated) where there has not been some sort of conflict, via war or genocide. History has a way of repeating itself. I was just having a discussion today with some coworkers about the founding fathers and how people today - like Obama-llama - don't believe that the Founding Fathers have anything to say about how things are today (ie. there isn't anything to be learned from the things they said and thought). As historians (with a common love for WW2) we know that to be much different, but until the people in positions of power and change start to learn such lessons, things are always going to repeat themselves in such a manner.
Great point! History does always repeat itself, history is there for us to learn about our past mistakes so that we dont make them again. Unfortunately they stress math and science more in school than history. Math and Science will be the death of us (think about it, how many people today can live without technology for a single day let alone an extended period of time, were things to hit the fan i.e. mass failure of technology).
Silly answers for a silly question. He inferred that his opinion of a current class warfare was comparable to a World War. This is nonsense. That is an ambiguous statement. Higher because the population is larger than years ago? Communist, Socialist, Progressive, and Liberal talking point numero uno. Opps too late. You did. No the reason why there is a crisis in America is that Democrats thought it would be nice to lend money to those who could not possibly afford a mortgage....see sub prime mess....see Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, And Franklin Raines. They also hamstrung the Glass–Steagall Act and allowed Banks to become investment houses peddling worthless and poorly managed mutual funds. They allowed the SEC and MMS to watch porn instead of monitoring their respective responsibilities. They allowed Unions to think that the private and public sector would be extorted from craddle to grave with ridiculous demands. No he lost his job because the Union management was greedy and demanded too much of the owner so the owner either went out of business or attempted to survive over seas. People don't own a business to employ people. They own a business to make a living, pay their bills and provide a good life for themselves and their family. Ah yes something about another post and RIP common sense. However, let us not stray too far from the Chaos WW3 concept as there is some possibility of that occuring. Not in the poverty/class warfare text of the Chaos concept though, but rather any number of potential flash points such as Venezuela, Iran, Pakistahn, Afghanistan, N. Korea, Russia, Greece/Macedonia, Turkey, and Israel to name a few. These all recently poorly handled by the absent minded professor in the White House. Greed does play a role in the form of a petty Dictator for some of the previous mentioned countries. It is eerily similar to the dictatorships of pre WWII. With Russia needing more breathing room; Ossetia and Georgia. Iran being antisemetic. Greece playing the role of France in WWII(weak government), and the current administration trying its damnedest to be Greece's understudy. Let us hope the second Acte doesn't come.
