While the Danish King Christian X may not have ordered all his people to wear the "Star of David" to show support of his nation’s Jews, this seems less apocryphal/anecdotal.

A Swedish newspaper last week told a tale:

On his morning ride through Copenhagen last week, Denmark's gaunt, brooding monarch Christian X saw something that caused him to rein in suddenly.

It was the Nazi swastika waving over a public building, a rank violation of the terms which Hitler imposed on Denmark.

"Take it down," the King ordered a German officer in front of the building.

"Orders from Berlin," replied the officer.

"The flag must be removed before 12 o'clock; otherwise I will send a soldier to do it," the monarch declared.

"The soldier will be shot," warned the Nazi officer.

"I am the soldier," said the King.

    The swastika came down.

This Story is told a little different in Denmark:

During the first part of the occupation Dannebrog (the danish flag) was hoisted over Amalienborg (the royal palace), by a member of Livgarden (the royal guard).

At one time the German commandant in Copenhagen ordered the commandant of Livgarden to cease doing this.

The next day Dannebrog was hoisted.
The German commandant then ordered that the Danish guard who hoisted the flag the next day, was to be shot.

The next day Dannebrog was again hoisted.
When a group of German soldiers was dispatched to capture the guard responsible, they found the King in full dress uniform with a sabre at his side.

This is one of the many great stories about King Christian X that has been told several times and change a bit each time, so which one is the true, I cannot say. :)
